Revisiting this thread wondering whether CPT MTBer managed to get a MTB?

Hi All

Can anyone give me some reviews or personal opinions on this bike ?

https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/merida-29er/products/merida-big-nine-200-2021

Will be using it for trail rides maybe once a week. Nothing serious .

i have been browsing bikehub, gumtree and facebook market place since December but decided that i would rather buy something new. Also dont want to buy something too entry level as i have seen many posts here saying that the cheaper bikes gives endless problems and arent reliable when doing off road cycling .

Are there other bikes in this price range that i should consider ? Budget is R14k .

Also considering the Talon 1 but currently no stock . Stock levels of the entry level bikes seems low all over .

thanks

Alright, so I am looking at the classifieds on a daily basis hoping that the right one will just jump out at me. So, today's alerts revealed a few MTB's in my opinion worthy of looking into.

But now my question(s): what is of more (and less) importance when looking at second hand bikes?

A few pointers will be greatly appreciated.

Let's look at these for example:

Me? I'd stay away from the 3 x in the first advert, unless you're just in it for social riding, or if you can convince the seller (a dealer so he might just be able to accommodate you) to change it for a good price to a 2x or a 1x

The 2nd to me looks good, except for the age of the frame.

The specialised would be my choice due to the components and age of the complete rig - and if you can check the paperwork of the previous major service, you might get a good deal there.
