JHB 2 DBN Amashova cycle tour

Hi Hubbers

 

I have committed to doing a ride down to Durban end of October finishing off with the Amashova.

 

The route that we are planning on following is:

Day 1: Stone Haven on Vaal to Reitz (+/- 153 Km)

Day 2: Reitz to Bergville via Kestell /Sterkfontein Dam (+/- 180 Km)

Day 3: Bergville to Nottingham Road (+/- 130 Km)

Day 4: Nottingham Road to PMB (+/- 50 Km)

 

Has anyone done this route before and if so does anyone have route profiles etc to share.

I think on one of the other Amashova threads, maybe 2019 as 2020 didn't happen , I saw a few people were doing it or have done it.

Frosty, bmw1za, Jehosefat, maybe some others too.

My wife used to do a similar tour every year for ten years and even got me to do it one year. 

 

Unfortunately pre Strava days so I cant help there.

 

If I remember correctly the biggest climb was out of Escort but there are rolling hills most of the way and at that time of the year you may have thunderstorms in the afternoon and wind

 

We had one just as we were going down Olivershoek Pass.

We leave from Alberton via Heidelberg, Balfour, Standerton, Volksrust (235km), then to Newcastle and Ladysmith (160km) and finally to PMB via Colenso, Escort, Mooiriver, Nottingham Rd, Howick and Hilton (185km) ending with the Sweetwaters descent.
