Rigging a shifter to drop bars

Steady Spin

Recommended Posts

So I have the Cotic X in SS setup at the moment. It's fun but at the same time it doesn't get used because of that.

On occasion I would like to have it do duty on the IDT as well as on gravel and some road as well.

Problem is.... my brake levers are just levers. I have an old X9 derailleur and shifter that I would like to use but naturally the bars are too chunky.

I really don't want to spend money on new levers/shifter to make this work.

What are my other options for a 9 speed shifter compatible with SRAM X9?

I don't have SRAM so can't give a specific answer but when I was looking to fit 9/10 speed shimano to (ironically) my X, Google had lots of articles on compatability of components. Worth a search?

Can be done... Did exactly that on one of my builds. You just need to open the clamp a bit and you will need a slightly longer clamp bolt to secure.

Alternatively you could use a barend shifter like this

I did this IDT road bike

EDIT: BTW all SRAM X RD's and shiffters are pull ration of 1 to 1 so

X9 9 speed will work with 9 / 10 RD etc
