Pros vs the rest of us

there is a lad in my cycle club, he is knocking about in the top top amateur ranks in the UK. Just needs a lil luck and assistance to land a pro gig.

The lad is a phenomenal machine. I have no idea of his power outputs but he drops me like a stone within a quarter mile, in fact he drops the entire club in a mile.

The difference in ability is like me racing 46. its worlds apart.

All we get from this is that you and your club are relatively *** sleg.

It says nothing about the "lad".

Mea Culpa.... but i had a good laugh.

Its just astounding how good ppl can become at something. Cycling is one of the few sports where we can conceivably compete with the pros. )sort of anyway)

Compete... Ride with occasionally is more like it.

I did many, many miles with Vinokourov back in the 90's and more recently many, many miles with Pritzen over December.

In racing at their level I'd be dropped like a used condom.

A list of FTPs (lord knows how accurate) here: https://procyclinguk.com/pro-cyclist-ftp/

Weep-worthy.

I look at the Power and think ... ok not too bad.  Then I look at the weight and think .... ag gaan k@k man.  There will be nothing left of me if my weight drops to that.  In a good year I will drop to 82 and then the wife gets all nasty and mention I better start putting on some weight.

Are you familiar with the term

Trilabis?

It means all Tril and Ribbes

You probably need to be Afrikaans to understand it

Would be interested in in Roglic, Pogacar , WvA and Ganna's numbers.

That FTP for MVDP seems a bit overstated compared to other analysis done on his power profile before.......

MvDP wont have a threshold of 6.5wkg.

Isn't Matt producing a similar ftp (480) and he is about that weight as well?

I don’t know what WVA/Roglic or Ganna are; but Roglic would be pretty close either side of Tadej

I'm reading Chris Hoy's autobiography (a good read btw) and his peak power of 2500W is astounding. Then again, he writes of how he competed as a teenager in MTB, and his dad would wait for him to finish when everyone else had gone home, believing Chris to have had some issue that prevented him from finishing. At a similar time, he was competing in the world's BMX champs.

Sure, many years before he became the legend we know him to be, but it goes to show the difference in power profiles for various riders. It's a rare beast that has the ability to do great sprints and fantastic long, hard efforts. Those are the riders that generate many threads here

Based on this I would guess Primoz's FTP to be somewhere around 420w maybe?
