yes. dunno who the golf champ even is. Tennis same vibe. Football i think is done fine with the u23 requirement, BUT we all know why it's there - TV time and revenue.

As a sailor, the olympics is a very debated topic - it is a huge income earner but the program is not really reflective of sailing in general. there's currently a big whoo haa about the classes being used for paris (well it always comes up) - as the move to a mixed gender 2person keelboat has been kicked out by IOC (for now).

wanna see these ingebritsen laaitie on the biggest stage of all.

Wayde dreamer hasn't even run the 400m yet this year

These few are all world class. Simbine most def belongs there, winning stuff left, right and centre. And who doesn't love Gerda?!

not denying those going are world class...but look how few are going to represent SA in Athletics is what I am meaning. We should have double the number athletes going at least!

Men's Rugby Sevens

Kurt-Lee Arendse, Angelo Davids, Zain Davids, Selvyn Davids, Chris Dry, Branco du Preez, Ronald Brown, Stedman Gans, Justin Geduld, Sakoyisa Makata, JC Pretorius, Siviwe Soyizwapi (captain), Impi Visser

Disappointed to see so many of our REALLY good players not there, with just 1 player from Rio in the squad we have guys who have never even played a 7s world series tournament yet!

some of them playing 15s well (kwagga/cheslin)

some of them playing 15s average, werner kok, senatla

oh. and coach neil has covid.

Surfing too!

Pity that Jordi is missing out due to injury. Would have been one of SA's better hopes for at least a medal.

i guess a lot of the top surfers are missing out as they all come from usa+hawaai and australia.

didn't realise Jordy was only 33, he's been at the top of our pile for 14/15 years now. clearly the next guy in line (whoever that is) wasn't worth sending

here' how he got injured. looks legit

talk of kit on the cycling thread.

https://sasportstrader.wordpress.com/2016/07/28/sa-olympic-kit-vs-their-competitors-rio-kit/

as you can see it is all about the $$$$, clearly some backhanders going, and not even pretending to care.

Sedgars got this kit deal, and sent mbalula (sports minister at the time) on holiday

The contract with 361-Degrees runs until the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

didn't extend to 2021!

I was happy to see MrP involved, at least it is local, and i really hoped that they had enough experience with local sportsteams not to stuff it up - maybe it was last minute, but who knows.

oh well.

uh mean, ooo velskoen

Veldskoen Olympics

Jip, he went for it and came up short .

From what I have read he really wanted badly to go to the Olimpics... hopefully he will get another opportunity

Fantastic surfer who can pull off the most spectacular moves.

Matt MacGillivray is currently ranked 21st on the CT and was our next in line BUT the Olympics qualification was based on individual results from qualification events in 2019 and I believe Fioravanti qualified by being in the top 40 and by placing top 20 at the latest World Surfing games, so the spot was Jordy's, not South Africas.

Matt was definitely worth sending, but he didn't qualify, the Italian did

I know I'm going to get slated for this but I reckon Surfing at the Olympics should be a wavepool event. Those pools are popping up everywhere and making it a pool event means taking it inland.

The Olympics isn't exactly in the "spirit" of surfing anyway so may as well go full hog and have it in a pool. You could even have a best of 3 format. Day 1 tubes. Day 2 Shredding (no airs) Day 3 Airshow.
