Like a gazelle being chased by a cheetah in the very powerful looking Roglič, Kort gets over the line net-net for a spectacular stage victory after being in the break all day. Chapeau!

I think Rog wanted to keep a little bit of powder in reserve knowing he'd get rojo anyway. Kudos to Magnus for getting the stage

Interesting stage awaits today...

I told a mate, I’ve seen better production on 70s porno, and the commentary ????????I know it’s hard to stay on point and factual and entertaining for hours on end but vaaaark, get more presenters split them up

and I guess we all just spoilt by TDF, this seems like we watching a series of American high speed car chase from a police helicopter

I put my VPN in france and get the same french commentary as for TDF, they are very good, but unfortunately production is the same and I had the same random wide shots in the last 2km so couldn't understand when Carapaz dropped, when Roglic caught... bit frustrating because this was one crazy finish !

Eina, Valverde. Somehow the gap in the barriers (must've been taken out already by a crashing vehicle). He looks eina. What a blow for the Spanish National Team.

Tears for the old champion. When one has limited time and opportunities left to serve the team, a Grand Tour ending crash in week 1 must be so eina. On the apex, a small pothole and months of physiological and psychological preparation instantly washes away in the dust and abrasions.

This race is still wide open- not a single rider has stamped his authority so far.

A precious precious win for Team DSM by the Aussie Michael Storer who nearly fell over on the final wall.

Hugh Carthy and the team in pink will be disappointed as the lanky one just didn't feel well since the previous stage. This Grand Tour was his final  big effort for the season after a relatively fruitless 2021.

Storer worked hard for that and richly deserved.

The previous time Alejandro Valverde abandoned La Vuelta:

Oscar Freire was World Champion
Paolo Savoldelli was the winner of Il Giro
Laurent Jalabert took polka dot in Le Tour
Johan Museeuw won his final Monument
