It's been a while – GOOD GRIEF!

Seems the last time I posted/visited here, was sometime back in 2017. Which is like a decade after signing up to this site (as it was then).

And whilst I am still cycling on bike's that look like they have walked straight out of the late 1990s, let's just say I haven't been doing it seriously, or following along on much that has been happening in the world of mountain biking...

Now the wife has started making noises about wanting a bike. And the young'un needs an bigger one soonish – so dawdled into the Specialised shop in Paarl earlier.

Wow. Like seriously. Wow.

I knew e-bikes were now a thing.

But Bluetooth enabled dérailleurs, sans cables? And that 1 blade front, 9-12 back was now the default? Helmets that call home when you meet the earth-maker? And don't get me started on the new(?) options ito brakes, shifters, mech families... Yowzers.

And then, of course, there's my having to potentially take out a second bond on the house, to get anything new, big and shiny! ????
Looks like I might need to start spending some time hanging around here again, just to get up to speed again.
Fortunately, I now look the part of an aging, overweight office-yokel who's swing is too k@K, so he's now looking at getting into the golf-replacement – so there really is a low bar in terms of patience on the part of the sales people/shop assistants...

But ja – bit of a nothing post, but just felt compelled to pop this up.

Happy riding all.

That would have been a great idea 3 years ago. But most of us have moved on from discussing cycling to more relevant topics like whether those who identify as being vaccinated should be able to use the ladies bathroom.

Still sounds Crazy to think a semi decent Road bike starts @ R60k and the sky is the limit, I still can not get myself to replace my current Scott for a new Mountain bike that costs like triple what I paid for it in 2015 - I think I am going to break even if I sell my Scott now.

Just remember ... on the Hub you may only charge 50% of purchase price MINUS 10% per year thereafter .....  On the other sites you can advertise it for 150% of your purchase prices, i.e. less than half the current price, AND it will sell at that price.   (not sure if this should be in CS font...)

Returning to the sport, you KNOW what a rabit hole it is for the bank balance.

A friend of a friend was interested in cycling at the start of this year.  So he rented a bike at the local trails and joined us for a ride.  Few weeks later he bought a hardtail MTB for more than double what he had originally mentioned as his budget ...... two months later he sold that and bought a nice second hand full suspension.  He is now about to spend more on a dropper seat post than his original budget ..... and off course there were plenty small purchases in between.

PS - are you and the wife looking at normal MTB's, or e-bikes ?  Hardtail or full suspension ?
