After a few teasers of the 2022 event, it was all finally revealed. 26 kms, yes you read that ride, was the only allowance given for racing against the clock.

Here it is revealed: https://www.giroditalia.it/en/

The 105th edition of the Giro d’Italia will start on Friday, May 6, in Budapest, Hungary and ends on Sunday, May 29. The Friday start of the Italian Grand Tour provides an extra rest day and transfer from Hungary to Italy, set to take place on Monday, May 9.

Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) took the maglia rosa at the last edition of the Giro, which saw him build his overall victory on the strade bianche of Tuscany and then on the climbs above the snow line of the Zoncolan and Passo Giau. Italian Damiano Caruso (Bahrain Victorious) fought to a second-place finish after three weeks of racing, and Simon Yates (Team BikeExchange) rounded out the podium in third overall. - Cyclingnews

the last week is going to be brutal, even by Giro standards. And there's even a volcano, and that's been doing scary things lately too. It's going to be a cracker

Volcano? .... Sounds like zwift

Who would of Guessed that one day it will head off in Hungary? Wow that’s pretty amazing…. After the pink jersey had a few days of Hungarian sweat added into the mix of race this year. I look forward it!

Pozzovivo will hopefully ruffle a few feathers on the hillier days. I dig that guy - never-say-die.

interesting that Valverde is riding the Giro and not the Tour. Perhaps he wants 2 GTs this year and to sign of with the Vuelta?

I really like how EF are set up. So many power houses there. Then again, Ineos look unusually potent. Jumbo as well. Astana, Trek, UAE...

basically, this is gonna be a cracker of a GT methinks. This isn't a 1 or 2 horse race. It's really open and isn't that just how we like it?

Looking at the opening stage, that final climb to the line favours MVDP. recent Strava activities show some monster efforts. perhaps he's eyeing a pink jersey to go with his yellow French one? pretty certain Ewan would have something to say about that though. Demare too or even Nizzolo, Cav....?

With so little ITT km I'm backing more of a pure climber.....

Not sure who, but TommyD will not trouble the scorers deep into the race.

Bardet's best chance to win a GT, same with Superman Lopez. Simon Yates is a dark horse and I'm expecting the shark to try to upset the apple cart on what must be his last shake of the fin at Giro.

Carapaz, Ameida and Chaves must be the 3 riders on paper with the most to lose, but I think there are enough punchy climbs and breakaway win stages for one of the not so mountain goat guys to get into the running.

For someone who prefers the classics and monuments, I am very excited to see how this pans out

Hoping to watch (the evenings) from the hotel, for stages 4-7, but will miss stage 8 while flying home. The rest of the stages are sorted as WFH. 🙂
