12 Speed Sram GX on 11 Speed Shimano 105 cassette, indoor trainer?

Would I be able to run a 12 speed sram gx derailleur with 12 speed chain on a 11 speed shimano 105 cassette for the indoor trainer? I tested it and only one gear was a bit iffy. I don't plan or running through gears, rather just find one gear that works and then use it for Erg mode training. Can this be done or is it just a bad idea due to increased wear etc? Should I rather just stick with the road bike on the trainer?

Done it with a wahoo Kickr, 12xspeed GX, 11xSpd cassette, my advice only would be to use a cheap chain, keep your mtb chain for the trails.
