Guest Big H Posted January 18, 2007 Share We will use a freight company to take our personal belongings to Nigeria by air cargo. I was thinking to pack the Tandem as following:- Strip the handles, stems etc , tie the front handles to the top tube, puts spacers (or spreaders) into the front and rear dropouts, place a spacer in the disk callipers, secure the rear derraileur, remove all speedos etc.Wrap the frame in bubble plastic and use a three ply plywood and sandwich the frame (a square slightly larger than the frame) and use 50x50 strips of wood as props screwed onto the plywood. Use styrofoam as buffers.Do the same with the wheels. Pack them in pairs sandwiched in plywood and buffered with styrofoam. The handlebars etc can go into one of the crates with my spares. At least the plywood will be ridgid and also protect against "punching"Any other ideas or suggestions will be appreciated. Thug Posted January 18, 2007 Share If you're good with a welding torch I can suggest another method.
Guest Big H Posted January 18, 2007 Share No we will have to get Dirty Rider..... he claims he can weld wood .... and carbon. Wonder if he has made a carbon frame yet!!!!!! Thug.... do you think above would suffice?????
bikemonster Posted January 18, 2007 Share Remove the rear derailleur, bundle it up with as much of the chain as you can in a plastic bag, and tape the bag against the seat stay. (Not sure if this is what you mean by "securing" the rear der. Make spacers to stiffen the frame where the wheels would go. I have used threaded bar, cut to size, with a nut and washer each side of the dop-outs. With a box around the bike you prolly won't need the extra support, but better to arrive at the other end and find that you didn't need it, than to find that you did need it but didn't have it. Guest Big H Posted January 18, 2007 Share Yes that was what I meant with securing the rear derraileur!!!!!

Dit was 4 jaar terug so ek weet nie of dit so great verander het nie.
E1A104 Posted January 18, 2007 Share I wouldn't bother about special "treatment" for the rear derailleur - Its a shimano and apparently they are bullet-proof and never break.... They even use them in Moz you know, every bike there has them.
Vir hierdie jaar is ARGUS uit. drumworx Posted January 18, 2007 Share Looking at those charts - I am really glad I live in Pretoria and do not have to be subjected to that kind of torture. Enjoy it though!
