Thug Posted January 24, 2007 Share Shamus brought that out a while back. Makes for interesting reading and consequently I'm now running my tyres at approx 2 bar.

Brakkies Sport Fotos Posted January 25, 2007 Share What they say is (not applicable to tar)..but only to dirt roads: The smaller the tire (1.9) and harder, the more resistance, as the tire "contact area" (they called it patch) is longer. The fatter the tire (2.1 - 2.4) with softer (like 2bar) The fat tire "patch" is shorter . The patch is when you sit on the bike, that piece thats flat on the ground. They recon the wider and softer tire don't make a big patch because the air goes side ways as well in the fat tire

rock Posted January 25, 2007 Share but wider tyres are heavier, what happened to the lighter wheels less rolling resistance theory ?
TitusTi Posted January 25, 2007 Share Lighter wheels with the same contact patch are faster.
