Cape Town danger areas

A friend of ours was bike jacked on Main Road, Woodstock, heading to Claremont, close to the Woodstock Quarter.

Three or four guys jumped out from the sidewalk and tried to get me off my bike.  I thought I'd managed to get away from them, but I think they must have got something into my wheel, or destabilised the bike some other way, so I went over the handlebars.  I didn't get a good look at them, and I have no recollection of events after going over my bars until the security at Woodstock Quarter woke me up inside their building.  I saw no weapons.

Reported the incident at Woodstock SAPS, and the ambulance took me to Chris Barnard.  X-Rays showed no breaks, but the doc said there is possibly some tendon damage.  Going to see the specialist on Thursday.  Mild concussion, some cuts and grazes on my face and shoulder but no other injuries.

They made off with his iphone X, new Garmin 130 and Momsen Hardtail SL729 MTB (Black, white and gold, with red Manitou shocks.  Recently installed dropper post, and bull-horn bar ends)

How sad. A city gone belly side up by some crack chasing scum. What’s sadder is the blind eye that the majority of people will turn towards to the decay of society and the city of Cape Town. The last outpost is fading away. Fast.

Drug city! Tik koppe...

Ja/nee, Another constant about the blind eye is that it is often still turned after all the signs are ignored and when the end comes; quickly. Storey is that women could not get a hair appointment in Singapore one day before the Japanese captured the city.

2021 worries me so much I will have to buy a new (motorised) bike just in case.

Once upon a time, long long ago, back when people did not need to wear masks and shook hands to greet one another, and freely sneezed wherever they wanted with gleeful abandonment, I rode up Main Road from Muizenberg. This was on a Saturday at the height of the lunch time rush home. As I was crossing the N2 my chain snapped and since I had no chain link (thinking before the ride I did not need one...) I ended up hike-a-biking to the waterfront from Obs, through Woodstock and finally through Town into the WF where I started my loop of the peninsula.

This was back in Feb as a reverse training ride for the CTCT. I passed a gazillion people, taxis, cars and all sorts of society and not one person even so much as glanced sideways at me (If they did, I was too ignorant to notice).

How times have changed.

Most of these incidents are happening early morning while the roads are quiet. These guys aren't on tik, they're just your basic tbeif who has found an easy target

Just seen the video footage

At least 6 people wondering around after the cyclist went down. It looks like they hooked his front wheel with something as the victim flipped over the bars and was knocked unconscious.

One guy ran and jumped on the bike while someone else very casually rummaged through his pockets and strolled off with his phone.

While he was unconscious on the ground?

Thieves have no scruples.

One of my relatives committed suicide. He went to a secluded spot in his car and shot himself. When his body was eventually discovered thieves had stripped him and taken wallet, gun and phone.

Another friend and his son were killed in a single vehicle accident. When their bodies were found o thieves had stripped the bodies and stolen everything they could out of the wrecked car.

The more I look at modern society, the more I see a Mad Max future of scavengers and predators preying on productive people, eventually leaving a wasteland where nobody can survive. This is from both a social and environmental perspective. The utopia of humankind progressing and evolving higher and higher civilization simply doesn't seem very likely at the moment.
