Relentless Posted February 25, 2007 Share What do you have displayed on your cycle computer during a) training, and b) racing? actual speed, distance, time, cadence, ave speed, heatrate, power, temp, ascent, etc. For myself, I watch actual speed and cadence while training And while racing, I watch ave speed and distance. So, what's on your dial?

bikemonster Posted February 26, 2007 Share Training: Top: Distance (but sometimes time if I need to be home by a given time)Middle: CadenceBottom: HR Racing:Top: DistanceMiddle: CadenceBottom: HR covered up with masking tape 'cause I don't want to see it. Knowing my cadence has saved my bacon more than once. On occasion I will be riding at my limit and feel like I need an easier gear, only to look down and see that I am spinning at WAY over my own optimum cadence. I used to ride with current speed displayed, but decided that speed was the result of what I was doing, and so started believing in cadence because that is an "input" rather than a result. I wear the chest strap so that I can download it later and see what it was, but during a race, I don't want to know 'cause all that it can do is mess with my brain.bikemonster2007-02-26 01:15:
pastapouch Posted February 26, 2007 Share top line cadence time, middle speed, lower heart rate. Often just go through everything on the top line...

MichH Posted February 26, 2007 Share I have the same problem that certain readings just mess with my brain. I don't have a HR monitor yet (who can tell that all my money went into a fancy new MTB?!) so I read cadence and clock. That way I can't punish myself with speed (too slow) or time elapsed (too much!). Also let's me monitor my output (cadence) to try and make sure that I keep it up. TitusTi Posted February 26, 2007 Share Training: Cadence and HR, flick to time every now and then.Road Racing: Speed and stopwatch that I start when the gun goes.Mtb Racing: Temperature and stopwatch that I start when the gun goes, figure these are the most useful bits of information, nothing else really matters except your placing but my monitor doesn't do that yet.
