RodTi Posted March 27, 2007 Share Hello All, Have a friend who used to be a avid mtb'er, who has now decided to convert to road in the hopes of his knees going a bit gentler on him. Appears to be more of a chronic than an acute problem. I don't have the specifics of the injury - but if he has to hear from one more doctor to "stop riding and rest" - he's going to hit the roof. In short, does anyone know of a good knee specialist - WHO ALSO RIDES, or at least, will be more prepared to consider the problem, whilst taking into consideration the needs of serious cyclists, in the Western Cape/Cape Town region? Anyone know anything about the Dr's at the UCT Sports Science Institute? Thanks!

AndreZA Posted March 27, 2007 Share Knees are wierd problem. I went to 3 specialist, one send in a scope, biokinetic treatment for 3 months, physio, stress release therapy, and sports massages and nothing helped for me. I even gave up and started selling by stuff. End of last year I went to a chiropractor for a few sessions and I'm almost 100%. Every few weeks I just go back for a quick alignment and I'm ready to go again. My knee problem came from my lower back that pulled the muscles in my shoulder which in turn puls the opposite knee out. Believe it, ir not. Delgado Posted April 2, 2007 Share Mate I realize that you are in the Western Cape but there is a top knee specialist is based Pretoria and his name is Dr. Daan Du Plessis and he can be reached on (012) 346-3004. He is highly recommended and proof in the pudding is that he deals with all the top rugby guys. Even some of the Oz players have been to see him!! I have had major knee issues and will recommend seeing the best and not the best available locally....
