Mykonos - Should we bother?

While riding with some of the local Elite and SV league riders this weekend, we all talked about the current mess that Malmesbury was, and one big question stood out?

Should we bother doing Mykonos League ride?

Spoke to some of the UCT guys, and I think their league is pretty much tied up. I think one asked "whats the point of racing if we just get randomly disqualified?"

Spoke to some of the SV's this morning, and everyone is in agreement that it's pretty much a waste of a race. Pinnacle Point won't let anything and anyone get away (there goes my race), and Swift/Kozmetic will try beat them in the sprint. Of course this all depends if anyone randomly gets disqualified or not... so who (apart from MariusLOL) is doing this?

I'm thinking Stellenbosch coffee ride (save the petrol and entry feeWink)...

Tough call - I am generally against futile protest but I do feel aggrieved at the mess this has become. From our point of view however, we have Doug in yellow by a few points from Naas and given the circumstances I am loathe to hand it to him on a plate.

Give it to him.I can't help thinking that if Naas was disqualified( and in not such a good position in the league) he would be more on the riders side.Wink

This is not quite the end of the mess, Fatty.  There is still alot of fighting left in me, so if the status quo can remain with regard to the ponts, there is still a lot to ride for, even for the UCT riders.

And besides, why should "they" win? But the little devil in me also says:  don't go and see how the league event falls flat on its face.

The bottom line is any way that most sponsors will with draw in the long run...Cry

Poison, I also heard another rumour (unconfirmed) that Patrick Gaertner offered to pick up part of the tab for the May Vets tour, but PPA said "we're not spending R50 000 on 150 cyclists"..

Anyone that can confirm this?

I can't confirm it, but if it's true I applaud it.

I would do it if I didn't have a matric dance to attend to the eve before the race (I could just go straight there - no sleep and all)...

I think it's a good one to up your seeding if you're a funrider, since there won't be too many participants, resulting in the PPA joining the groups together (e.g. A - C)

Im not going its to far for a 2hr race that we will get into *** for for nothing atall. If the race was longer I would go and most of my team arent keen either so I'll do the sbosch thing if you going.

I also can't confirm it, however that negetive attitute will not surpirse me at all.

If they'd gone to a little trouble to advertise the event all over the country, they would have received quite a number of Gauteng and KZN entries as well.  There are no vets tours this year for those guys either (which Ali McLean confirmed) and they are starving for some stage racing.

The number would have been far more than 150 riders......
