MichH Posted May 4, 2007 Share Hi all, Crunch time. I have the budget and the need for a new frame. I am currently riding 5.5 inch travel and fairly keen to stick with it (unless someone can give me a good reason to go for smaller travel). I ride as much technical ground as I can. That doesn't mean I'm good at it, only that I want to be better at it! I am nearly completely convinced with the Commencal Meta 5.5. I received a rave review from a friend who has been MTBing for 20 years and is buying his in 2 months. It's R12 000 for the frame and back shock. Anyone care to convince me to consider alternatives? And it has to make sense!

Thug Posted May 4, 2007 Share tbh Mich, there are far superior frames than the Commencal for that type of money.
AndreZA Posted May 4, 2007 Share I'm glad I'm not in your shoes. I would not know where to start. So you are looking for a trail bike and not a XC.
Desertbob Posted May 4, 2007 Share Mich, didnt you just build up a full-sus Scott a little while back. Why the change, or is that a stupid question?
Marius Posted May 4, 2007 Share Get a SantaCruz Sl!!!
MintSauce Posted May 4, 2007 Share tbh Mich' date=' there are far superior frames than the Commencal for that type of money.[/quote'] Yes indeed.....to start with, look at: Titus MotoLiteTurner 5 SpotVentana El CiclonSanta Cruz Blur LTCannondale Prophet Ventana and Turner are still quite small in terms of volume but the attention to detail is something to behold, both still built in the US. Turner has quite simply THE BEST service in the industry.....an undisputed fact like the changing of the tides or the earth being round. Titus has lost some of this specialness in going for a bigger share of the market and moving their ali manufacturing to the east. Perhaps someone up there could source one of the Nicolai Helius frames from Germany, but they might be a bit more expense. This is quite possibly where MY next money will go! Haven't seen anyone put this much effort and detailing into aliminium bike frames! As my friend(of whose Nicolai i posted on here a while ago) says.....SEX ON TOAST! rock Posted May 4, 2007 Share for that sort of travel and budget - the titus moto-lite looks v.good, yes I said it.stumpjumper fsr also fits that bill - however as a frameset, I think you'll struggle to find one (that can also be said for the moto-lite I think)
MintSauce Posted May 4, 2007 Share .....sorry, just to add, the Ventana might also be slightly pricey, possibly 15k+BikeHut in Tokai was selling 06 Turner 5 Spots a couple months ago for I think 11k
Marius Posted May 4, 2007 Share The Santa Cruz Juliana is a featherweight women's-specific suspension bike sporting custom-butted aluminum tubing, 4 inches of rear travel and a design and ride guaranteed to please women. This dream machine is engineering to fit the female physique perfectly, and to ride great. The proportioned top tube fits right and gives you more control. The low bottom bracket enables aggressive cornering and increases stability. Plus, the tuned suspension and gossamer tubing make this rig accelerate, climb and descend like no other.Marius2007-05-04 06:50:
AndreZA Posted May 4, 2007 Share What about Intense? They use Sanata Cruz's VPP rear end. http://www.bikeasylum.com/chrysalis-admin/CMS/Images/bikes/Intense-Spider-XVP_vsml.jpg053714635118627 There is also Mountain Cyclehttp://www.bikeasylum.com/chrysalis-admin/CMS/Images/bikes/mc_zen.jpg01756677259432
MichH Posted May 4, 2007 Share Jaja Mints, don't think I can get a Titus in my price range. Plus you have to have something to dream about (wink) Marius, travel is 100mm, I think I'm looking for 140mm
