Who was looking for a wheel builder?

I know Johan well - and have trained with him for years - he is very experienced and a perfectionist.

After I crashed at the Lost City, I was in a hurry and had my wheel re-spoked by a well known shop here - I had endless trouble - the wheel kept going out of true and eventually one of the spokes was so tight it cracked the hub.

I then realised I needed to call Johan - he took a side cutter and removed every spoke by neatly cutting it in the middle - he then told me to come back in two days, the wheel was ready, perfectly trued and its never given me one minutes trouble since.

He is an absolute nut, expect to be told off and dont expect him to be polite, but he is extreemly knowledgable and if he re-builds your wheel - it will be right, believe me.

...........and by the way he is also quite an accomplished mountain biker having done the Epic and various others so he knows whats up.

Just had a look at his website.

And saved it under my favourites...

Looks like this guy really knows his stuff.

And I like what he says on his site - calls a spade a spade.

Will definitely call on him should I choose to go that route.

Thanks Mampara...

One thing though - where is he based?

Gauteng?

He is not a bike retailer - as he likes to say "he works for a living".

...........but Yes Midrand - Gauteng.

I was looking for a wheelbuilder a while ago to build a powertap into a Campy Neutron wheel. It is being done in the Cape by the guy the Powertap agents use. Will see how it turns out.

But I must say Johan looks like the guy to visit if you need a good wheel builder. Thumbs%20Up

With the other thread raging about the silver spokes instead of black, here is a quote from Johan:

"Many bicycles are factory-fitted with black spokes and replacing a

broken black spoke is difficult when suppliers don?t carry stock of all

sizes in all colours in all gauges. They don?t. Sometimes you?ll end up

with the odd silver spoke if you?ve broken a black one. Live with it. "

At least he's upfront about it though.
