Mr Giant Posted June 14, 2007 Share Since Bjarne Riis admitted to doping, does that make Big Mig a 6 time tour champion? Please could someone clarify this?
Kal-El Posted June 14, 2007 Share Hi thereI beleive the Tour organising party states that the winner is null, not sure though, ie: no winner. If they were to re-instate second place as winner, i think that would make Jan Ullrich the winner, he was second in 1996. Hype Posted June 14, 2007 Share That is until Big Mig also admits taking drugs. And then ?
Thyolo Posted June 14, 2007 Share Would they give it to Jan Ullrich now he's admitted to doping? If the result isn't void maybe the 47th placed rider is in with a chance*? Seems a shame not to have a winner but, then again, would it mean much 10 years on - no champagne, no birds on the podium pretending to be excited? (*I have a certain sympathy for those initially finishing in the lower places).
Tumbleweed Posted June 14, 2007 Share as i understood it, they couldn't actually remove bjarne from the winners list, but said they wouldn't mention him in connection with the tour ever again

Tumbleweed Posted June 14, 2007 Share the case for big mig from sprinter della casa: "If Riis doped and so did Ullrich, is Virenque the winner? No, Virenque doped and so did Dufaux. So now Luttenberger. He had to have doped to be up there with the dopers (and he didn't do better any other years). LeBlanc? Doper. Ugrumov? He raced for Carrera - doper. Escartin? Kelme, need I say more. Olano? Mr 55%. Rominger? One of the first guys to hold "training camps" and come out of them faster than if he had raced - doper.Indurain? Hate to say it but '96 was the year they announced potential tests for EPO and I predicted Indurain would falter. This means he STOPPED taking EPO.I think Indurain should be the winner."
