dino Posted March 3, 2010 Share Hi guys Bit of a noob, so please excuse any questions that may come across as obvious to those of you more informed! I'm looking at getting a bike, and currently the two models i'm considering are the Silverback Sierra and the GT Zaskar Expert (2009). Both models are within my budget, so it comes down to specs. The GT has a lighter frame, whilst the Silverback seems to have much better components. If there is anything else in this price range that you guys could suggest it would be very much appreciated! Thanks. dee_biker Posted March 3, 2010 Share If it was my money, I would have gone with the Silverback. Just because everyone has a GT or Merida.
Ryan Posted March 3, 2010 Share Silverback has a much better spec. Nothing wrong with SLX at all but XT is just that much cooler. Not sure about the brakes though. I would go for the Silverback.

mark ellis Posted March 3, 2010 Share Silverback, or as pite said, Merida Matts
andretraut Posted March 3, 2010 Share Merida Matts HFS XC 1000D light and fast I concur, Merida HFS 1000, comes with XT and is a much better bike than both options. Will have to stretch your budget a bit though!
Thumper Posted March 3, 2010 Share Given your options I'd go for the GT, components are easy to upgrade. Do yourself a favour and drop nagala a message, those Chumba hardtails are sweet!
dino Posted March 3, 2010 Share GT just seems like i'm paying for the "name" though. Difference in weight is about 1kg. Really worth it? Oh, and the GT is about R1000 more...

dino Posted March 3, 2010 Share Another bike in this category would be the Scott Scale 50? Tachymeter Posted March 3, 2010 Share Go to this website www.chainreactioncycles.com and buy the groupset you want. Then go and buy the shock as well from them. Go to your bike shop and buy the frame you want. Have a look at doing it this way you might be supprized with the money you save, and will allow you maybe to upgrade the frame or wheelset even. Skaap Posted March 3, 2010 Share i would say the scott by i am bias... but also consider the G6 alu frame mongoose
StokedAboutSpokes Posted March 3, 2010 Share I would take the GT frame with the the silverback comps. The sivlerback frames have crap designed geometry.
