mark ellis Posted March 3, 2010 Share What are your thought on the prices of stage races? I have been setting up my race calendar and some of these Stage races seem to be pretty high for what you get I fully understand that a lot more work goes into these than normal one day marathon events, and that some of these events are riden in spectacular riding areas that are normaly not available to us. just keep to hear what other though really
Cranky Posted March 3, 2010 Share Depends. Some, like the Cape Pioneer Trek and Ride to Rhodes, are great value. Others, like Sani2c, are worth every cent. Many of the two-day rides like Dusi Mfula are also reasonable. I guess there are many factors that contribute. Some prices have increased more than I'd hoped. I did Berg and Bush in 1997 and it's much pricier now (and out of my pocket), but there is big demand. I've also found that I can spend 3 days at a resort like Cathedral Peak Hotel where I can enjoy great food, brilliant riding and more, at a lower price than most 3-day stage races. cat-i Posted March 3, 2010 Share as long as these races are oversubscribed, i guess they can ask what they want to?
Dirtbreath Posted March 3, 2010 Share I think you make a valid point cranky. For riders who have access and are able to do unsupported rides there are many opportunities to do some awesome riding at a lower cost than doing a race. Granted that you do not have a race but there is a large proportion of the field, myself included, who ride to enjoy the terrain and scenery. As for the racing, I just dont want to be last.
