mercurystorm Posted March 12, 2010 Share Cape Town - A man in his early 30s was arrested for drunken driving after he knocked down two cyclists in Hermanus on Friday morning. Both men were taken to the Hermanus Medi-Clinic where they are in stable condition, the hospital's Margaret Smith told News24. However, one was being transferred to Vergelegen Medi-Clinic in Somerset West, Smith said. Superintendent Phindelwa Mavakala said when police arrived at the scene they found the men lying on the ground and the suspect and his car were nowhere to be seen. "He only stopped about a 1km away, and then walked back and admitted to hitting the cyclists." Upon arrest he was found to have been drunk, said Mavakala. The suspect is expected to appear in the Hermanus Magistrate's Court on Monday. Earlier in the week three cyclists were killed in Oudtshoorn as they practiced for this weekend's Argus cycle race.
