Front Deraileur camp not big enough

Howzit Guys,

 

I have a raleigh team frame. The frame is made to take a 34.9mm deraileur front clamp with a 53t chainring. However I would like to put a 55t chainring on as I'm converting the bike into a tt from. The frame gets wider towards the seat post and therefore I cant move the front deraileur up as it doesn't fit. I can however do some mods to get the deraileur to fit by just skimming the inside of the clamp, but my question is would I crack the frame, as its not meant to have a deraileur that high?

I think it'll take more than a bit of skimming to make it work, and there's a strong posibility of cracking the frame as where the FD sits is normally reinforced to take the load of the clamp. A 55 chainring is also a bit enthusiastic...

Sorted. For some reason where the bike shop thought the deraileur was meant to go was actually an indent to accomodate a triple chainring. The deraileur fitted further up where is is meant to go but needed a bigger bolt. For some reason the frame is abnormally wide, in fact wider then spec.
