mark ellis Posted April 12, 2010 Share Has anybody else found this using these grips?? I find after about 3 hours my thumbs start to cramp up, never had problems with my hand before and have raced off road bikes for years and been in the saddle for well over 3 hours on some races and not got cramps. Thinking about going back to the normal grips.
Neutron Posted April 12, 2010 Share I have been using these grips for 3 years & they are the "add on" that has been the best value for money. I suffer no discomfort at all whilst using them.
Chubba Posted April 12, 2010 Share That?s interesting, as that is the point of the ergon grips, to reduce or negate hand cramps.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
mark ellis Posted April 12, 2010 Share do you think maybe because I hav been using normal grips my hand s will need to adjust to the position?
splat Posted April 12, 2010 Share Which ones are they? Is it at the right angle for you? They have a big range - difficult to choose the 'right' one. I use the GE1 Enduro and they have to be set just right or the anotomic bump causes more problems than they solve.
Titanium Rocket Posted April 12, 2010 Share I used Ergon grips for a while, until I worked out they were the cause of considerable discomfort. I have small hands, and found the Ergon grips were preventing ideal reach/control of the shifter/brake lever (dual control Shimano). On long downhills with fingers on the lever for protracted periods, there was all sorts of pain and discomfort. Changed back to conventional skinny-type grips, and problem disappeared, plus far better handling and confidence on the technical stuff.
Ysterman Posted April 12, 2010 Share Ja, more or less same experience ... My hands go numb ... ulnar nerve issues ... At first, with new skinny Lizzard grips and old gloves, my little finger got semi-permanent damage - they stayed numb for weeks after ... I then switched to Ergon grips & Spez BG gloves. My hands STILL got numb ... but just during the ride, but still major issue. I've now put the skinny grips back on with Spez BG gloves and my hands are much better - very little numbness during the ride, but ... think that little finger numbess after the ride is back, I can feel "something" there. So we will see after CLarens this weekend ... think it will be a good test for the hands ...
Headshot Posted April 12, 2010 Share I have had the ergon mini bar end small size grips on my bike for 3 years. The large size is designed for rugby players and could have been the cause of the previous posters probs. I use mine with dual controls and found an almost total reduction in numb/tingling hand problems. I have quite a pronounced weight forward set up on my marathon bike and these helped hugely - so much so that any round grip feels horrible in comparison. Not for everyone obvioulsy, but if you ride stage races, I recon they are a hand saver.
Mackie Posted April 12, 2010 Share I rode them for a while, they were nice and comfy and had no physical issues with them. I did however feel like I was not in total control in the gnarly singletrack and technical singletrack/rock climbing. So I swopped them. I see Specialised make some ergo grips that look and feel great and only cost R285 I paid R750 for my Ergon Grips with Ergon magnesium barends.
