ChroMo Posted April 21, 2010 Share Hey, people Can one use a 9spd MTB cassette on a road bike? If not, why? Pardon my ignorance if the answer is obvious to everyone but me. Cheers.
cyclenut Posted April 21, 2010 Share The rear derailleur won't be able to handle it (in most cases)
AndreZA Posted April 21, 2010 Share You'll need a long cage rear derailleur and a new chain. That is offcourse if you are putting it on a 9spd bike.
ChroMo Posted April 21, 2010 Share thanks a lot or the input. ...or maybe I should just lose more weight and push a 12-25 up the hills instead! Cheers.

MoreTrails Posted April 21, 2010 Share I've been running a 1x9 12x25 on my mountain bike with 105 RD (yes i know it is the other way round) and it has been quite "fun". Hard work but fun. So why not mix and match on the road bike - and as Mampara says, slap on a longer cage RD otherwise it tends to "stick" a bit...
ChroMo Posted April 24, 2010 Share Thanks. Will be ordering the stuff from SRC soon. Cheers.

I can understand a longer cage derailleur, but excuse my ignorance, why would you require a new chain?

ChroMo Posted April 24, 2010 Share I was wondering about that myself.... I imagine the larger rear (32 tooth) sprocket will require a longer chain? Anyone?
