MTB cassette on Road bike?

Hey, people

Can one use a 9spd MTB cassette on a road bike?

If not, why?

Pardon my ignorance if the answer is obvious to everyone but me.

Cheers.

You'll need a long cage rear derailleur and a new chain. That is offcourse if you are putting it on a 9spd bike.

thanks a lot or the input.

...or maybe I should just lose more weight and push a 12-25 up the hills instead!

Cheers.

I've been running a 1x9 12x25 on my mountain bike with 105 RD (yes i know it is the other way round) and it has been quite "fun". Hard work but fun.

So why not mix and match on the road bike - and as Mampara says, slap on a longer cage RD otherwise it tends to "stick" a bit...

I can understand a longer cage derailleur, but excuse my ignorance, why would you require a new chain?

I was wondering about that myself....

I imagine the larger rear (32 tooth) sprocket will require a longer chain?

Anyone?
