HLTGN Posted May 5, 2010 Share I need your opinion on what wheel set to purchase please. I'm looking at: ->XT wheel set - weight: 1675g - price: R4200 or ->American Classic White Tubeless wheel set - weight: 1480g - price: R4800 I need a wheel set that I can use for training as well as racing and I weigh about 78kg. Is the American Classic wheel set strong enough for training as well as racing, taking my weight in to consideration?
mtb_Josh Posted May 5, 2010 Share I weigh 70kg and I ride an old set of american classics. They're probably around 5 years old. I train and race on them and I'm quite rough on them. They are both true and the only problem I had is the rear went a bit oval, but that was easily fixed. Good wheels
Icycling Posted May 5, 2010 Share I will have XT wheels again by the end of May for about R3000.
Big J-WP Posted May 5, 2010 Share Problem solved looks like the XT will be the best option at that price
Weight Weenie Posted May 5, 2010 Share Being WW my choice is obvious, but there were bearing issues with the AC hubs but apparently sorted with new models, maybe do some research. Hubs may also work and adjust differently, but im not a techie so dont know the +'s of each. HEre's a good review in the interim http://www.gramslightbikes.com/2010/05/american-classic-mtb-tubeless-review.html
