Haha, I also watched it on sporza....are you from Belgium that you are familiar with that site?

Back on Cancellara....eish,...I don't want to believe it but when you watch the video, you do start to wonder.

Just imagine if this is real? Hopefully not! I really hope it is not true

I do love a good conspiracy theory!

This one does have me sitting the fence though....

It's true because:

- My first impression of Sparty's acceleration and subsequent motorbike TT was that it was too good to be true. The guy absolutely smashed the world best cyclists (including past winners).

- A wee motor like that one can produce about 200 watts for one hour - enough to ride a 40km TT at rididuclous speed.

It's false because:

- It's just too flipping obvious! The motor noise, the extra weight, the extra little buttons on the gear levers - someone MUST have spotted it. Especially because there is a strong cycling paparazzi who specialise in spotting new gadgets - especially at unique races like Paris-Roubaix.

I guess I think it's false - but my mind can't stop saying "what if!!!".

I'm not from Belgium but I've spent a lot of time living  in Belgium. So I know most of the Belgium sites fairly well. I work at the Tour de France also    So I bump into a lot of old pro's every year.

Well... it would be easy to hide a button under the hood cover. no one will ever know... Cabling to the motor from the control switch will be a visible issue, however doing a remote control switch won't be rocket science.

I reckon it's very possible, dependent on motor noise.

The system will add a bit of weight to the system though...

I don't know... if this happens to be true I think the sport of cycling will loose all credibility...

Cancellera has always come across as a great sportsman (in all senses of the word), I can't see him blatantly cheating like this video implies. He has always been strong, winning TT's for years.

I think it's a load of poef...

my 2c worth.

Sounds like Belgian "Sour Grapes" to me, in both Paris Roubaix and Tour of Flanders poor old "Tomka" Boonen just couldn't keep up so Cancelarra must be cheating!!.HammerHed2010-06-01 08:00:53

Just had a look and see some issues here.

That device they are talking about doesn't seem to have much torque, when the dude squeezes the button the crank spins but in all honesty Cancellara would be able to turn the crank faster than 90 RPM and with more thrust and power   as well.

Every single bike gets checked by race officials from top to bottom to make sure that they satisfy the UCI regulations.

The funny thing is that on the Flanders repeat he clearly shifts with what looks like his middle finger, this is all that would be needed to make the double tap shifter do it's job.

The device is designed for a 31.8 or something seat tube diameter. Cancellara's Specialized has a 27.2 mm seat tube diameter ???

Here is a picture of the Spartan winning the race.

I can't see any buttons or extra bags such as a saddle bag or even a bottle.

This would be required to house the battery pack as well as the electronics needed to make this device work.

He also has no bottle on his bike so he couldn't even carry the stuff in a bottle and had he ripped it all of somewhere on his escape to victory, it would have been a scandal loooooong ago.

Still no buttons or extra wires ???

He just had better legs on the day, he was strong and fresh when his competitors started running low on fuel.

Non pensavo che avrei visto il giorno in cui un italiano sarebbe venuto fuori con una teoria della cospirazione muto, quasi come i francesi.

Remote control ?

Yes, actually I have heard of it somewhere along the line.

This would then require an additional receiver with crystals.

Familiarise yourself with the device in question and you will well understand why it requires wires.

And let's just assume that he used a remote control, where did he stash the battery pack ?

NIMH and lipo's also don't have a very long run time .

This is a joke to no end smiley36.gif smiley36.gif

Oh, and the video that makes the claims refers to him pressing a button on not just one but two occasions.Dangle2010-06-01 05:16:33

Agree - 100% Any electric motor makes a noise and that plus batteries will add quite a bit of weight. That said, maybe the technology has been developed to be quieter than we think...
