webs Posted June 14, 2010 Share Will it work if i cut the steerer of a fork shorter to fit my bike? What about the "thingy" (don't know whats it called) where you tighten the headset. It sits near the top of the steerer on the inside. Can that think be taken out and placed inside the shorten steerer again?
Top Fuel Posted June 15, 2010 Share Get a long bolt that fits perfectlyinto the thread. Screw it in to make sure it won't thread the nut. Then hit it gently down the steerer. Keep doing this until it is far down enough that when you cut it it will be in the right place. Easy!

Gravity Posted June 15, 2010 Share hahaha, i did that without tools (i moved into a new house and was tool less) i ended up getting the mop stuck in the tube - finally got the mangled mop tube out and then because i am a *&^&ing fool i did the same with a broom stick, and i couldnt get that out. I am slowly accumulating tools now - awesome not to use a brick as a hammer and my multitool as a screwdriver for everything
AndreZA Posted June 15, 2010 Share If you get an expander bolt like they use in carbon fork you do not have to worry about star-nuts ever again.
