Recommended Posts

My next race will be the 3rd Nissan series race...And since dirt-rider called me a...a...a roadie, I decided to take on the full marathon as a once-off. I have done only 2 other marathon races - both this year: 70km @ babbas (12th) and the 75km @ Suikerbosrand (5th)

So, just for fun. Lets compare training notes and see what the result will be on the 24th: (Rider weight 86kg)

Wednesday

Eks moerse onfiks, but here goes my 'training' after the last Nissan. Oh and the Windhoek carbo loading is not shown ;)

Will try hit the gym tomorrow for core and leg strength and some intervals tuesday and thursday, off friday and XC race Saturday (30km, I'm going to die, puke or pull out, unsure which will happen 1st..)and maybe a recovery ride sunday.

Will be away from the 5th, but plan to do some good training there.

My SAS is atleast now a 46 from a 58 © and an F before that.

I just about do not do any cycling training. I just run a bit  cycling as training takes just too much time, and the cages are friendlier to runners than cyclists

Since the second Nissan event (Fast & Furious) I've only been on the bike once for a slowish (nearly 3 hours) 32km ride. :D Going to do the Logwood 1/2 marathon this weekend, and then Nissan #3 1/2 marathon and Carousel. Will have a look at what else after that in a few weeks time.

I can back this non-cycling up as well, have a look at http://connect.garmi...s&owner=agteros ;)

I am currently doing something like this if my weeks goes as planned.

I dont ride in the bad rain but otherwise I try to get out there.

Monday

1 Hour Cycle (home from work)

1 hour - Gym strength work in the evening (just started doing this and may change the day as well)

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

2 hours a day (Home-work-home)

Friday

1 Hour to work

Saturday or Sunday, not both days

2-3 hours (I need to step this up though to 4-5 hours soon)

So if all goes as planned I am doing around 12 hours a week or so.

A bud of mine (rides for cape town market) is doing about 20 hours a week.

Hectic.

I am a firm believer that quality beats quantity hands down.

Rode 120km yesterday, from Veldriff towards CT. Headwind the whole way. Average speed was 27.5. 1.5 hour spinning tonight as recovery, then same on wednesday with hard intervals. Three long MTB rides this weekend, Friday, Sat, Sun. Hope the weather plays its part....

That is why I rather run; two interval sessions per week and then a few 8-9km session days. It beats cycling hands down for general fitness!

At least one core session a week does more for staying power on the bike than what I've found general JRA (just rding around) does.
