ysbeer Posted August 2, 2010 Share Guys and girls I want to get a commuter bike for the city. Not going to do longer distance than 15 km a day. I'm a mountain biker and would still like to enjoy my rides to work so want to get something that would jump a curb. What would you suggest? Getting a bmx or more a urban trick bike like those dudes on the mountain bike videos that balance on buildings edges etc. I really don't know the complexities of the differences between the two. stewie911 Posted August 2, 2010 Share Well. Depends what you want to do. You can still jump a curb with a normal mtb, which will also be easier to do the 15km with. If you want to play around and do some urban jumps of say 1m and higher then you can get a urban/dirt jump bike. DO a search on dirt jump. The bikes with which they do balancing tricks is called a trials bike. WOuldn't recommend riding 15km with that. They normally don't even have a saddle. Give some more info, and then maybe we can help some more.

PhilipV Posted August 2, 2010 Share Normal mtb with strong wheels, single speed and a QR seatclamp bolt sounds about right.
stewie911 Posted August 2, 2010 Share Why QR seatclamp? Is it to easily lower saddle for when you want to get creative on route

Tumbleweed Posted August 3, 2010 Share You considered a flatbar commuter, with something like a set of Conti Town & Country tires?
ysbeer Posted August 4, 2010 Share I'm actually looking for something a bit different from a normal mtb, just for the sake of riding something else. What brands would be advisable for BMX (will look into GT thanks)
