_Daemon_ Posted August 21, 2007 Share A great wheel madeeven better: Lightweight ?Obermayer?. The Lightweight ?Obermayer? is alighter variant of our proven spoked wheelset. ?Obermayer? wheels arebuilt around extralight hubs by TUNE and Lightweight and featurelighter rims, as well. New development for the Tour de France ? At 960g or less, our new ?Obermayers? are our lightest wheelset for roadraces of any kind. Stiffness is still top rate. The Lightweight?Obermayer? is a direct descendant of the Lightweight ?L?Alpe d?Huez?.We developed the latter upon request from a leading pro team especiallyfor the grueling mountain time trial in the 2004 Tour de France. Mostof the innovations developed for this highly specialized wheelset havebeen incorporated into the new ?Obermayer? wheels, resulting inconsiderable advantages to you: You get an even lighter race readywheelset with unsurpassed stiffness. In fact, the ?Obermayers? are justas stiff as our regular wheelset with the same spoke count, taking atop spot among lightweight wheelsets. Racing performance withoutcompromises In contrast with the uphill-only ?L?Alpe d?Huez? wheelset,?Obermayer? wheels can be used in any road racing event both up- anddownhill. The thickness of the carbon layers and the heat protection inthe rims brake tracks have been designed accordingly. Even thought thelightest Obermayer front wheel only has 12 spokes, it tracks as well asany wheel from Lightweight ? we know about the importance of stiffwheels for a safe ride! Robust fiber spokes, showing almost noelasticity, ensure a stiff wheel. We recommend the ?Obermayer? wheelsetfor riders up to 176 lbs (80 kg). 16- and 20-spoke front wheels areavailable as well. In contrast with the uphill-only ?L?Alpe d?Huez?wheelset, ?Obermayer? wheels can be used in any road racing event bothup- and downhill. The thickness of the carbon layers and the heatprotection in the rims brake tracks have been designed accordingly. However, the carbon lay-up has been redesigned to lower the weight evenmore compared to our proven standard wheelset. Less weight means thatyou arrive earlier ? more time to celebrate your victory afterwards! This new and improved lay-up is a direct result of the development workwe did for the specialized Lightweight ?L?Alpe d?Huez? set. The hubsHubs from Lightweight and TUNE. The rear wheel revolves around thesuper light ?Mag 160? hub by TUNE. This high performance hub is builtusing a carbon fiber axle, which is both stiff and light, and it is oneof the world?s lightest hubs. The front wheel contains our own superlight bearings which have proven successful in all our wheels. Toreduce drag special high-precision bearings are used. And as fits whatmay be the world?s best wheelset we only use specially formulatedgrease to reduce drag even more. The spokes Fiber spokes. While evenour 12-spoke wheels are plenty stiff, Obermayer front wheels can beordered with 12, 16 or 20 spokes depending on rider weight and intendeduse. All rear wheels come with 20 spokes. There are no spoke nipples orother fixtures which could loosen or fail ? no need to true your wheelsever again! Integrated wheel magnet and microchip To give an evengreater advantage, extremely light Samarium-Cobalt-magnets have beenlaminated into the rim. At only .8 g there is nothing to disturb thewheel?s perfect roundness. In addition, integrated magnets areaerodynamically superior to ordinary wheel magnets, which are bolted toa spoke and create additional turbulences. Even lighter is themicrochip laminated into the rim: A mere .2 g light, but it stores allrelevant production data, giving your wheel something equivalent totheir individual fingerprint. This allows us to ensure identificationof the wheels, perfect product support, and easier repairs in case of acrash.

Christie Posted August 21, 2007 Share I think normal lightweights go for 30k, the Obermayers are more expensive, I may be wrong. Christie2007-08-21 02:04:
