Making the wrong size work

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, If this has been discussed to death before - then apologies in advance.

Its a long story but I have ended up with an R3 Cervelo (I know drool) which is 2 sizes larger than what i should be riding. :( (58 instead of a 54).

Is it possible to get the setup on this to fit i.e. with shorter stems etc.. without compromising on performance or safety etc..

I suspect the answer is no, but thought i'd see whether or not there were some alternative views floating around.

bytheway - inherited some very sweet Boras with it which will be staying if i end up swaping the frame out :P :D

Is this a question or a gloat??

Bit of both - but the question part on size is real

You can make it "work"

But yes you are going to have a super short stem. Seat all the way forward.

Not ideal. Bike will be less responsive than it should be.

I rode the wrong size for a long time. But when I went down one it was amazing to feel what I was missing.

You should be riding a 54 you can make a 56 work, but alas a 58 is way to big for you. You are going to have back pain when you ride and your hands are going to go numb from the stretched out position.

Good luck getting a 54, hope some does a swop

Thanks Sammajoor - so when you say I could make a 56 work do you still mean not advisable or are you saying either 54 or 56 could be set up optimally?

Riding a wrong size bike and bad set up has resulted in me spening about R 20 000.00 on a MRI, CAT Scan. physio, 3 specialists and 6 months off the bike with a knee that gave in. Would have been cheaper to buy the correct sized bike.

You should be riding a 52-54 so a 56 is a push.

Just sell that frame or swop it as you will look like a clown trying to ride it and never get comfortable.

Please get a 54, with a 58 you are going to your body more damage than anything else. At 1.72, you can even size down to a 52, just set the seat back and fit a longer stem. Yes you can ride a 56, but I would strongly advise either a 54 or even a 52. The 58, will need to go on the classifieds.

Hope this helps
