EigerSA Posted January 29, 2011 Share I got a diamond back frame from my lbs that I asked to be stripped and re-sprayed, I also asked they take pictures before sending the frame on so I could get new decals which the y didn't do. I remember the bike had "DBR" written on the top tube, but that's all I can really remember. How would I know if the frame was titanium? Are there any markings that you know of that would help identify the frame material?

Similar to what 'S-Works' is to Specialised these days... Of course, that was then - when DB was still a major player... They've since nearly closed up shop, were then bought-out by one of the big US companies, and have made a minor(?) comeback States-side, but nothing close to where they used to be... If yours had a DBR sticker on it, it could've been from that era - earliesh 90s to very early 2000s... Mine is circa 1994. Regarding whether or not it was Ti - well, it's kind of difficult to explain what it looks like... Also depends on the finish of the Ti - i.e polished or not... Regarding markings - apart from stickers indicating the material [usually something along the lines of "3/2.5"], I'm not aware of any particular mark being hammered into the frame material... Serial numbers and the like are generally on the bottom of the BB, but even there I don't think you'd ordinarily find anything identifying it as Ti... Not sure if Diamondback brought out Titanium frames. Mostly cromoly or Aluminium. They did indeed. It was a limited production run of +/- 1500 frames between 1993 and 1995 - made by Sandvik, who also produced top-end Ti frames for the likes of Mongoose etc. at the time... Nice bike - but no comment on the saddle People either hate them or love them [or are simply being polite]... Recently converted the frame to a SS - will pop up pics asap... The old-skool saddle sort of matches the look more now...
