Hi all hubbers

I did the Gravel Travel today and It was quite a RIP-Off

I did the 30 km which cost me R120 pre entry instead of the usual R70

And the promised there was singletrack wich there was none of just jeep track

and all you got was a juice ,magnet and a keyring afterwords , so it worked out R4/km for jeep track

How was the 65?

Races are expensive Inusc. Don't know this race, but when I enter a race I don't expect any freebies. It's nice to get them though.

If they promises singletrack and there weren't any, then that's something to complain for sure.

That's why I enjoy Babbas Lodge mtb race every month. For R100 you get a medal, juice, banana and t-shirt. That's value for money.

Inusc you would have had a very different experience if you did the 65km.

What an awesome race with lots of single track!!

Better race than Die Burger 60km

BTW wine tasting for R20 and kebab for R10 is a not expensive - dont know where you taste wine and buy food.

Cheers

I did the 65km and had a very different experience from what you had. Have you contacted the orginisers and chatted to them about how you felt before voicing your dissatisfation on the hub? I must admit that the riders I spoke to about the 30km found it challenging and rewarding. I also recall a good 3km of single track coming down Hawekwa (part of the 30 route too, unless the short route sign at the bottom referred to the 15km route).

The 30 km route had about 500 riders that finished the ride. Any more singletrack may have meant long waits at parts of the course.

The positive is that Welvanpas got some good exposure. Why not pack your bike on the car on Saturday, go down to Welvanpas and go and ride some of the awesome singletrack we had on the 65km route. All for R25.

You got a key ring and a fridge magnet!!! All I got was a juice, I want my key ring and I want it now!!!!!

Well done to the organiser's for a great race (65KM) route, although I hear the 30km route was just as much fun, maybe not as much single track as the 65km route.

Next time get fitter and do the 65km route!

Not an assault at anyone but "lots of single track" is perhaps a tad generous, there was single track is perhaps more accurate, the single track was also pretty cool to ride, the long open roads in the middle had me feeling a little jaded.

Inusc, you got schnaaied for whatever you paid for matric english as well. I'm still trying to work out your heading.

That does sound steep at face value, but late entry is a hassle so it has its penalties. Remember the profits from this race get channeled straight back into trailbuilding. Of course if you put the masses onto trails for races, then people moan about queues. So in effect you guys are funding welvanpas, thank you.

R4/km? If you really want to count, then do the sums on the epic.

120 is absolutely disgusting.

it should be 50

that's why less people are attending events

I Agree with all the positive comments on the 65km route. Must be one of the better routes around. some absolutely mind blowing single track, even found myself sporting a devilish smile at times. Well done to the organisers!! I will defiantely do it again.

dcalitz93 - happy to hear your opinion, factors such as the amount of races, weather, etc could potentially also play a role - just a thought - use it or don't
