I hear that it is - Monday to Thursday - 17:00 until dusk.

I haven't been this year, but am going for the first time tonight.

Cheers,

Dave.

I see GuyP beat me to it!

I have a question for all those that have ridden the Kayalami track. Which route (Clockwise or anticlockwise) do you think is tougher?

I personally think that it is tougher anticlockwise.

I've only ever ridden clockwise (not by design, it just seems to be those are the days I manage to get there) - but, looking at the course, I do think anti-clockwise would be harder (you don't get THAT climb up the Mineshaft, but you do get the 'false flat' (as the professionals would call it)over most of the rest of the circuit!

I think anticlockwise is tougher - there are two climbs per lap (a steep mineshaft and the climb up to the old start). Clockwise the climb is longer but you have more recovery time...

Either way - if you want to improve your cycling come to Kyalami - there is no escape - every lap hurts you a bit. Pain is your friend. Pain is weakness leaving the body etc etc.

Probably M1, Woodmead offramp, Kyalami road (R50 I think)...

I'll see you there - if you see a guy in Shimano/Lake clothes say "hello".

They have opened the track early (~16H30) a few times so perhaps getting there early is a good idea (beat the traffic too!).

This is the way I go, you will need to leave by 4:15pm very latest to get there in time to change and be on the track by 5pm. That is assuming no other road problems.

See you there, I ride a solis magma

  • 2 weeks later...

I've heard the track is also shared with runners - is this true? Some Tri-athletes apparently train there as well, alternating runs and rides on the track..?
