MTB hub choice? XT/XTR/ZTR/??

It all started with a wrecked rim, but it soon rolled over into looking at building a light set of XC wheels. I already have a set of ZTR Olympic rims and now need to pick hubs. Does anybody have experience/ insight on the No Tubes ZTR hubs? and especially vs MUCH cheaper XT hubs and similarly priced XTR hubs? Other than those, what would you recommend?

i would recommend the ztr hubs as they are a good weight..unlike shimano hubs they are sealed bearing..even xtr is still using loose bearings..

If you are looking for a really lightweight race set of race rims/hubs, then you best bet is ZTR rims laced to Tune hubs with DT Revolution spokes

The ZTR's are brilliant but my personal favourite is definately my American Classic hubs.

I got word from Cape Cycles that they will soon be bringing in lightweight Joytech hubs with sealed bearings for about R1500 a set.

I thought loose bearings were a better choice as there is more of a spread of the load as there are more BB's in the race? I do know its a pain when you drop one on your dirty workshop floor and the little bast#$d rolls under the tool cabinet!

precisely - wait for JB to get going. thats why even XTR hubs still have loose bearings, as someone else said.

I think bearing whise it will be fine - My worry is about the freewheel body on the ZTRs. There have been reports of locking up even moore so on the Tune units - has anybody here run ZTRs for a good couple thousand of k's?

I queried No Tubes on the reported issues and for what it is worth: They apparently identified the problem and rectified it.
