8 speed shifters with 9 speed cassette

yes, u just gonna have to set your low gear max to not shift to the last cog.

 

It still won't work (unless you're really lucky and have some play in the chain etc.) because the spaces between the sprockets are different. The 8 speed and 9 speed fit in the same space, and the shifters will pull a certain amount of cable per shift.

 

This is on the rear, the front will work fine

8 speed only works with 8 and 9 with 9 and 10 with 10 otherwise how would these guys force us to buy whole new systems.
