I have an 2011 Giant Trance X.2. With stock-standard parts, but including Shimano XTR pedals, a very light water bottle holder, and a speed/cadence sensor (few grams max), it weighs in at 13.26kg.

have a 2008 anthem,with xt groupset,and mainly kcnc whereever able,no waterbottle holders,

under 12kgs,saved weight on seatpost, seat, wheels handlebars, like as this post mentions, you can get obsessive about cutting weight,to the cost of performance, comfort, and breakdowns.

My exact standard Trance with tubes and tubby bag also comes in at this weight. (oh, with bar ends!!!)

My Merida 96 is 9.9kg and it's still not reasonable (not to me)

But seriously, reasonable depends on many variables: rider weight, type of riding, competitiveness, bank account. I would think that close to 12kgs is reasonble for a fairly competitive rider.

I think you are being "dishonest" with us and yourself..... maybe without tires?

Maybe u used the trick i use on international flight check-in.... u just touch/lift the scale on the bottom corner with your big toe....

I think most guys believe lighter is weaker and heavier is stronger, way too general.

The forces exerted on a heavier bike ( even with a light rider) are in many instances greater than on a light bike.

It is very important to understand where and how the weight is carried and where and how stresses are transferred to the bikes under which riding conditions.

Be specific if possible.

I weigh 90kg and my full suss 12.9kg... Even if the bike was 9kg it still had to carry my heavy body. Or i'll shave 5kg of my ass....

In that case, my trance must be at about 12kg - TBC

Hey Hubbers

I run a the following:

NINER RIP9 Large

XX Groupset

RockShox REBA Ti dual air

Thomson bolt on kit

Wheels: RIM Stan's FLOW

HUB Hope PRO II evo

Conti Xking (regular, not the protection, they were not available at the time)

Absolutely BOMB Proof setup

Bike and main components are 3years old now, and still going like a Boeing!!!

Bike weighs 12.8kg

For me, to lower the weight, it will cost more that the weights worth in gold.

On the other hand, I am a 100kg guy, and will easily;

Brake something lighter anyway

Save a LOT of money by shaving 10kg from myself...

I am shaving and shaving... (the weight that is... )

Oh yes, what I meant to add,

I take a No1 before a ride, shed around 300g, and save myself a couple of thousand R's upgrades!!!

okay... my FS is in the region of 25kg.

2002 GT DHI (5.5kg frame & shock only)

RS Pro Deluxe shock (needs an upgrade)

2002 RS BOXXER (I think it's a RACE)

LX Hollowtech cranks

Blackspire CHAIN GOD bash guard

Blackspire 36t chainring

XT RD & Shifter

XT Casette

Goodridge cables (for RD)

AVID Elixir 5's 203mm front, 180mm rear

Truvativ Boo-Bar (780mm)

Funn RIPPA stem (40mm)

ALEX DX 32 front rim

Mavic EX372 rear (or something)

Maxxis Minion 2.5 dual ply super tacky on the front

Maxxis High Roller 2.5 dual ply super tacky on the rear

DH tubes

Standard seat-post & Selle Italia saddle

So yeah. That's reasonable (for the moment) I have pedalled it up to level 4 at Tokai, but I was stuffed after that.

My hardtail is a somewhat more respectable 12 or so.

What would a reasonable body weight to bike weight ratio be? I was told that 5kg on the rider equals 1kg on the bike. So losing 5kg is like getting a bike that's 1kg lighter. What do you guys think?

I think that coffee tastes good. And you're about right, I think. Although the ratio varies wildly according to your own weight. Some of us are 100kg and ride 10kg bikes, and some of us are 100kg and ride 25kg bikes...
