Gravel sections in Road Races

I think it is a fabulous idea. Something new and different!

Of course I do not expect anyone else to feel the way I do which is a pity.

Now if they were to organise an elite race with a gravel section and loops so spectators could come out and enjoy it... hmmm..

Personally, I also don't have a problem with it (regularly do a short section of gravel at Devon Hill as part of training route), but then again, if I get some nasty stone chip damage on the new frame's paintwork.....Confused  but for the Gecko funride I have absolutely no problem with the section over Malanshoogte, as I won't be doing it! I refuse to ride anything that includes Vissershok.....Big%20smile

Not!   Wink

Thanks but no thanks...

New and different but in no way can it be good for your bike, dont you think? I try to look after my stuff.......

The Worcester route is not well thought out. That gravel section might be manageable going uphill, but then the groups have to cross each other at Overhex. If you go round clockwise there is no crossing of groups, but the gravel section is then downhill. No thank you.

I am not so sure. Why can you hammer a MTB so much but have to treat a road bike like it is made of glass?

Of course I would not advise using carbon wheels or super expensive bikes etc. cause the risks are just to high, but theoretically it should work.

Last time I was home I did quite a bit of 'off-roading' and riding on gravel roads on my old GT. Worked like a dream and was a lot of fun.

Agree. The Worcester-Robertson road is the de-facto N2, and groups of cyclists will have to cross each other and this road at one point.

Last year's route through the Slanghoek valley was brilliant. Sure it went through Rawsonville twice and had a section on the Wolseley road which is very busy, but even with these it was one of the best routes around.
