Where has your bike taken you today?

There are some amazing projects around here but they all lack one vital element ....GEES.....its like there's just no real atmosphere...OK COVID has impacted on that but a lot of the structures are facades with empty shells behind plaster molds.....just a bit too perfect, if you know what I mean...can't complain tho as the roads are excellent and early morning rides are awesome....

Here's another..Msheireb Town...admittedly taken on a Friday morning so it was a ghost town!

If I understand correctly, Dubai must be very safe to cycle around in terms of muggings and robberies?

If so, then it must feel super safe to do outdoors fitness stuff and to not have to worry about anything.

I'm in Doha, Qatar, but have an office in UAE and I have cycled plenty in Dubai and Abu Dhabi....Zero...I mean zero threat of muggings, of course, the threat of being mowed down by a car/truck is the same but I feel that's for a different reason than back home...driver's generally don't appear to know how to deal with cyclists on the road...I have never seen/heard of aggression on the road but accidents do happen unfortunately...

I was discussing this with a riding mate while breezing around the Pearl and my upcoming trip home is filling me with dread as I ride mostly alone, early AM and from what I have been hearing and seeing, incidents in the WC are skyrocketing.....made me feel kinda conflicted, love being home cause of long trips away missing family and such but really gonna miss the carefree riding here!

I understand exactly what you mean. You can create the "look" but you can't force people to introduce gees.

I don’t even lock my car when I park at the cycle track. And riding anytime of the day or night there is zero risk coming from a human source. An Oryx running across the cycle track in the middle of the night is about as wild as it gets.

Riding on public roads though is a different story. Firstly it’s actually illegal if road speed limit is above 60km/h although it’s never enforced and if a cop does come past you he’ll just pop your bike in his Prado with you and escort you to the track or ride behind you with flashing lights until you get there.

But the Expats do NOT drive well here and it’s not worth riding on the Public roads for a long ride, I’d only ride 5-10km to get me onto the cycle track. Although I’m not aware of any motorists hitting cyclists you just don’t see people riding on the roads like other cities.

To Suikerbosrand for a bit of wind, drizzle, and tempo/threshold climbing. While I'm not totally cooked, I'm definitely medium rare. The toughest part of the double loop is the knowledge, while riding the first loop, that you're going to have to do every climb again.

Pretty proud of myself pushing the Hulkbuster around that place in 2h44 solo. When the event organizer saw me and my bike he did a double take, looked at the other waify-carbon-aero-helmet attendees, and gave me a "Seriously? Sheim" look.

This grass is generally supposed to stick straight up out of the ground.
