Suggestions needed - building MTB track/ramps

Hi all,

After researhing this for a while now, I just like some input on the types of ramps / obsticales that can be built. Area and materials is not a problem. The land is flat, so I have to build the stuff and cannot use land contours.

I have already laid out a 4 km loop XC course, very cool as it runs next to a river for a stretch.

As part of the XC course I want to build a couple of ramps / log rides / wall rides....

Any cool idea?

North shore! Make a XC loop, then build a pump track around that, then a north shore trail around that, and link it all in so that you can take different lines or use the XC loop section as a chicken run on some of the stuff.

Read this and build accordingly

Build the north shore stuff close to the ground 1/2m off the ground or so, no need ot go crazy high, make it low but then you can make it nice and technical, skinnies, see-saw's, skinny from a bridge to a drop onto a bridge etc. etc. step down jumps off ramps etc.

Where are you building I am more than willing to come help.

Stuff like this looks like loads and loads of fun and it's not waaaay up in the air so us mere mortals unlike whistler locals can ride it without going through roofs ;)

Here is a nice skinny example with a bridge chicken run etc.

If you want to build jumps, start with tabletops easiest to learn not, cause if you don't make the jump say on a normal double, you just land on top of the jump and not in the gap, perhaps build doubles and so on as alternate lines for more advanced riders etc. etc.

And always, always, always make a transition landing from anything bigger than 4 feet etc.

If you need a hand sometime' date=' let me know!

Also if you want magazine coverage on the trail, I can arrange that as well.[/quote']

How do they say, thanks, but no thanks. At the moment I only want to develop it for myself / local comunity. You are welcome to have a look later on, but want to keep it private.

It is on a plot in Magaliesburg, Gauteng. Thanks for the willingness to help.

My plan is to start off with only a couple of basic stuff, then over time upgrade it. Because I am working, my garderner will be doing most of the donkey work. It is backbreaking stuff, I like to just give the instructions.

Land on a downward slope, and not a flat landing that's harh on you and your bike.
