  1. HAHA Thomo, you know then!!
  2. Thanks guys,Doris, I'm flying with LOTS of luggage! Family and furniture etc only arriving in two months. So I thought I just bring the most important things first!!....
  3. Hi guys, hope this in the correct forum.I want to send my bicycle to JHB from PE.(I will be living there now).I have boxed it in a "bicycle box" (picked up a box from my LBS).I was thinking post office, cheap enough at 100 bucks.Anyone do this exercise lately and have any better advice for me?I will insure it. Thanks for any ideas or feedback!
  4. Thanks for all the feedback guys, I now have a list of places to check out every weekend!!
  5. Is it safe to ride alone there doris? I'm not bringing my machine guns up straight away
  6. It was a similar thread Tumbleweed, I purely asked about the MTN cycle park last time. This thread I was hoping for advice on OTHER bikeparks so that I could see what people thought about some alternative venues(bikeparks specifically as I will be alone).I dont mean to fill the forums with the same question, was just hoping to expand my jozi mtb knowledge
  7. Thanks a mil Rouxtjie. And rest of you "joburgers"? Are you all in hibernation for the season....
  8. Hi all, I am relocating end of month and have searched the web and this site for places to ride(alone unfortunately, am new to JHB) so was considering the bikeparks. But could some MTB'er give brief overview of a few suggested parks. The net can be confusing with old information etc.Not sure what is closed now/moved/not safe.I am not a beginner but also no Kevin Evans.I'm not fussy either as long as I'm peddling out in the fresh air!! Thanks for your time in any advice, much appreciated
  9. And that means extra wheel AND cassette! That spinning bike in the gym is sounding much cheaper for winter!
  10. Guys I borrowed an indoor trainer from a friend to try out(RavX).It just about shredded my rear tyre in the space of 5 minutes trying it out!! Have I set it up wrong?Doesn't look like there is much one can do wrong. It is my road bike I was using. Any help please.
  11. There are some pretty trick velcro attachments these days for the top tube. Check that out and maybe make a few small modifications. Other than that, NO for all others except more padding as you said.
  12. I bought a Schwinn moab 2 for R2500 last year(and had very low milage on).Royal dont get too caught up with a brand of a bike but try get decent "equipment" gears, brakes etc. Most of the manufactures make a frame and add "equipment from 1 of 2 or 3 three manufactures. Now with that in mind I still dont know if I'v helped you....
  13. Botmas, I dont know the equipment level on your Thermo1, but I think it comes out as a recreational bike and not for racing. It can still give you many years of service depending what you ask of it.If it is only a year old I am not sure how much distance or wear and tear you have put on it. I have a friend who trains on a Giant boulder(Altus or Alivio RD) and it has been going for about 5 years already.Your bike may need some minor adjustments as wear takes place. I would not spend too much money on the bike upgrading parts as buying a complete higher spec bike almost always works out cheaper. You dont even need middle of the range equipment to have fun, BUT bike maintenance is very important!PM me if you have any other questions and I will be happy to explain in more detail.
  14. Depending on what "entry level" bike you started with, upgrading parts can get expensive.(especially if you have to upgrade half the bike).A decent entry level mtb can be bought new for R5000 and will give you a few years of trouble free riding. I also started taking my riding a bit more serious just over a year ago and bought a good second hand Schwinn Moab2. V-brakes and all its giving me alotta "bang for my buck"!Some decent second hand deals out there as well if you know what to look for.
  15. Scotty you hit the nail on the head!! At the risk of starting a arguement with many disc brake owners: V brakes worked fine for downhill 10-15 years ago. There are advantages to discs BUT few people are even using their v's to its full potential. Most people are not braking that late into corners to justify "extra stopping power".Besides your wheels only have so much traction on dirt anyway. In mud yes discs are better. Many people want to justify their discs because they are so cool and look "trick".Dont worry about justifying it guys, spend the money, you worked for it.
