  1. Eish. I don't know Cape Town at all. Even watching the tech videos, I've got no clue where these places are that they talk about. Will just have to go slow and careful...

  3. The goody bag comments... the weirdest thing I've yet had in a bag is a bottle of hair-dye shampoo.. some obscure German stuff. Like.. what? Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  4. I spoke too soon. I see that the wind numbers are up again... But it shows that we actually don't really know yet what is going to happen.
  5. I see the wind predictions are trending downwards. Accuweather now says 22km/h and with gusts of 52km/h. That should be fine.
  6. That's not the issue. I've ridden in gale force winds and enjoyed it too. But that wasn't in a race pack. It's not the wind per se that's the problem but the consequent high speed crashes - which can result in extremely severe injuries, even fatalities. There's a difference between being tough and being stupid. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  7. Source of that? Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  8. Got it... Ag *** Marelize! [emoji44] Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  9. Which model are people looking at on Winguru? Because for CT I'm seeing - in knots - much lower - and liveable - numbers. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  10. That's liveable. I was looking at Accuweather, not WindGuru. My error. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  11. I've decided I'm out if there are gusts like that on the day. I've ridden winds like that on my own no problem but in bunches, the risk of severe injury is just too great. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  12. I see weather reports predict a SE of 37km/h with gusts into the 80km/h + zone. Hoo boy... going to be pretty unsafe, no? Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  13. Guys – just a quick note to say thanks to everybody here for helping with advice and input – it has made a pretty big difference.
  14. On the tracking thing, I had a look and there is a Racetech app that you can download that enables you to track various riders as they cross the various tracking points. Check it out in Play Store and whatever the equivalent is for iOS.
  15. Excellent! Thank you very, very much. That certainly helps somebody who doesn't know the area at all. I am going to print that and take it with me.
  16. Okay, sorry about that. Thanks for the explanation.
  17. Guys, I suppose from a spectator perspective the most exciting places are the start line and the finish line? I am just thinking of my family who will be there for the weekend. They probably would not want to travel too far from the waterfront area given that they will be staying there and my one relative is quite elderly and not in great health but it will be nice for them to have some participation in events. Any particular thoughts? Also, I was wondering whether there is a cyclist tracking facility for this particular event the way there is for 94.7? With 94.7, you can go onto website and see what cyclist has passed which particular point – or so I am told by my family who traced my progress 94.7.
  18. Cool, thanks for that! Puts my mind at ease.
  19. As to the first point, it looks like it depends upon the airline. It also looks like they have special arrangements for the Cape Town Cycle Tour, I guess because of volume. Certainly, Mango seems to require the bikes a few days before. And then of course, you still need to go and collect the thing at the airport, get it across to your hotel et cetera. And they tell you it will not be on the same flight as you. Really, more hassle than it's worth – bike transport company makes total sense for the money concerned. I just hope my bike is not damaged in any way, although it seems very unlikely given what I read, et cetera.
  20. I am meeting some family from overseas in Cape Town (elderly relative needs to come for a specific medical checkup), so effectively killing two birds with one stone. Because of the family factor, my son and my wife are coming with me. We are all going to stay at the Southern Sun Waterfront. Which Is about 2 Km from Greenpoint. I had to look at Google Maps to figure out how I would be able to ride from the stadium to the hotel (which is pretty close to the starting point). So I reckon I will go pick up my bike probably on Saturday and then just doddle across back to the hotel. Not sure if it is safe to do that but I'm not seeing any choice. I guess after the race, I just return my bike again to the transport people (who will still be at the stadium) and then take an Uber back to the hotel. I am not at all familiar with Cape Town or it surrounds and I have no idea what this particular ride is going to be like. But I am quite looking forward to it.
  21. Meaning permission to ride the route twice?
  22. I couldn't agree more. It's very convenient. And pretty cost effective too.
  23. Thanks for that. I had no idea. I thought you simply rocked up at the check-in counter with your bike in your bag (seriously)! I've booked with the Bike Migration crowd now. Will have to now figure how the heck to collect my bike at Greenpoint... Still waiting for my seeding too.
  24. Guys, I will be riding my first CTCT this year. I am unsure whether to take my bike by air with me (I have an Evoc bike bag) or to use one of the many transport companies running between Johannesburg and Cape Town. The hotel I'm staying at will be pretty close to the start line. Any thoughts on the subject?
  25. 8000 m of ascent over 173 km. Nee, kyk - jy gaan klim ouboet!
