  2. Thats is downright sexy
  3. get a bigger chainring :-)
  4. Get a 3/32 single speed chain. Rapide.co.za has them. Geared chains are actually designed to move off the rings :-) Single speed not so much. Also usually they are much tougher - SS puts loads more stress on the drive train. Depending on your tensioner you got... You want the chain to be as short as possible and still work. Getting your chainlink right can be fiddly - I use a straight section of pipe which I lay against the chainring and get a good idea where the cog should sit. Also do take in mind chain wrap - you want the chain to wrap around the rear cog as far as possible. Many tensioners push away and greatly reduce wrap... Which results in the chain jumping under strain. Its better to have the chain pushed up...
  5. Miss the old days where you could just swop the crown out... In fact whats the chance of getting an older busted fork and doing a crown/stantion swop?
  6. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/375514-sr-suntour-xce28-100mm-travel/ Not the most expensive one ever... I have a very gently used Manitou Marvel on my Cube 100mm/straight steerer. I would consider swopping for a rigid carbon. Only issue is the bike is currently in Portugal...
  7. 20mm of travel only adds up to 15mm with sag. 80mm = 60mm 100mm = 75mm 120mm = 90mm Just saying on my Inbred - just felt wrong with a 490mm fork.
  8. Isn’t the Inbred more 80-100mm? Found on mine a 490mm rigid fork the front end felt tall. Sucked really as it was a sweet carbon one, ended up running a rigid steel fork. I’d lean towards 80mm if I wanted a boinger front end... Just saying.
  9. There have been a few advertised in the classified here.
  10. SASS Champs 2019 The Big Red Barn 7 Nelson Rd, Olifantsfontein, Johannesburg 12 October 2019 https://enter.entryninja.com/events/52242-weeaboo-sassc-2019 https://singlespeed.co.za/
  11. Yeah - I was just wondering. Unless its a half-link chain which will literally stretch over night :-)
  12. Surely you would need to adjust for chain stretch etc. which means loosening cranks and hub to adjust? Just seems like it could be a fiddly setup.
  13. The top bike is using a double pulley tensioner - Usually with those the cog ‘binds’ on the top pulley which can be a little frustrating getting the wheel out. Singulator (pull up mode) is easier but the ‘quick-release’ can get in the way in some cases using the spacer for tension can be fiddly...
  14. My 2 most recent builds.
  15. LOL - Loose 20kg of body mass... But its the cost as well... Any idea of how easy its to remove the rear wheel with it fitted. Many can be a real pain in the #### to get the wheel in and out. A simple easy to use system would possibly over-ride my option.
  16. Compared to a Surly Singular or Paul Melvin 109g (actually cheaper) it is though. The cheap SS double pulley tensioners are essentially ‘clutched’ and they’re around €20-30. I used a singular with a oval no problems as well - there is actually very little change length change. Also the tension on that is variably set to riders preference. Same with the DMR Tensionseeker 2. But I agree its not wildly heavy - But as a bit of a weight/money weenie its sort of out of the ‘inner circle’ for me. It reminds me a lot of the YESS tensioners. I prefer tensioners over track ends - but good sliders are definitely the SS sweet spot.
  17. Thats kinda sexy - but its expensive and not exactly light.
  18. :-) Left enough chunks of my knees on my stem bolts (let alone bruises tenders)
  19. Nice build. Try get your chain pushed up rather than down to get a better chain wrap.
  20. I’d be nervous - 2.25
  21. Can’t wait to get my On-One ‘Bred 29er back... Here is the next project bike till then.
  22. Ummm... the geared guys you ride with get frustrated because the can’t keep up? I only have single speeds.
  23. Or Spot, Carver, Gunnar, Swift... even Giant, Specialized, Trek have turned out some nice SS frames.
  24. Those are sweet. Been after a 27.5/29er set up for ages.
  25. Yeah - when I first tried a half-link chain thought it would be a match in heaven - nice simple ‘magic gear’ setup etc. I’m busy trying out one of YBN’s SS 3/32 chains from Rapide at the moment - its a nice chain - but had long enough to see what the stretch is like. The other thing worth noting is with single-arm tensioners like Rapide sells if the u-shaped chain guide plate - its very chain width/line specific - 1/8th chains tend to be too wide and catch the plate pulling it into the chain locking up the drive - find with a 3/32 chain the removable chain connector link with its extra plate just clips. The one I have is a very early one from 2003 :-) Its the first tensioner I had. Managed to fiddle so it works in push up mode.
