  1. TUBLESS all the way . I was one of those sceptics about tubless . Did the conversion 6 months ago and have not looked back . I used to run sealant and linners . Did the conversion and drop a kilo of the bike.I have had a couple of thorns through the tubless system but it just seals up as you ride . I have spent more on tubes and sealant than i did doing the tubless conversion . I am a heavy rider and tubes are a no go.

  2. check if there is slight free play on the lever for the fluid to return back into the resivoir . Remove the cap of the resivoir so that the inside of the resivoir can climatize to the out side pressure . Some times from traveling to different alltitudes the pressure in the resivoir gets too much and keeps on pushing pressure on the caliper . some small things to try .

  3. I rode the medscheme Walkerville race today . Only did the 40km and ended up doing 46km but the race was really good . the uphills were well rewarded with great technical fast down hills .

    TO THE POINT :

The 60km loop was lead by a lead bike witch was a racing yz450f quad . The guy riding the quad was not wearing a helmet . When questioned the race organizers about this they told me that he is ridding slowly and he knows all the dangers .

Sorry to bitch but 60 km on a racing shopping trolly that has a mind of its own . No helmet no race/ride!

  4. My wife is slowly getting into riding and has been riding for a year now . She is looking for a group of women or individuals to ride with during the week . She is not fast and does all the 35km mtb races . She needs some one to train with durring the week because we are a little scared to let her ride buy her self . We are in the fourways /Northgate area . Please PM us if you know of any begginer groups during the week . Off or on road .

  5. I have just fitted a carbon bar onto my mongoose teocali . Not only for the weight but they are shorter They measure 620mm and the old one were 660mm. I did a race on Wednesday and found that the bike was much more controlable , especialy through fast corners , Thick sand and climbing rocks . Any one else notice a difference from shorter bars or do i Just feel better becasue they look better :D :D

  6. I got the new ride magazine today where they talk about the third screw adjustment on the rear derailer and how the derailer wheel must only be 5-6mm away from the sprocket . I noticed my derailer wheel was about 25mm away from the sprocket and noticed the only thing holding it so far away from the biggest sprocket was the chain .

took a chance and chopped the chain and walla it worked .

Engineer NO , Doctor maybe LOL
  7. Have posted before about a **** gear change on the rear and took it to the shop i Baught the bike from and they replaced the cable , inner and outer to rectify the problem witch did not help the problem . After nearly pulling all my hair out with this problem I sorted it out my self .

I worked out the chain was 1 and half links too long . Chopped the chain and braught the derailer closer to the sprockets . The gear change is now silky smooth and changes perfectly every time .
  8. I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the Irene and <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Brooklyn branches on the top quality service I received this week.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I have been shopping around for the last month trying to decide on a"Bang for your Buck? bike.

I then contacted the Irene Branch and spoke to a guy by the name of Ervin who kept me on the phone for half an hour explaining all the pro?s and cons of all

my options.  I was then referred to Temba at the Brooklyn branch as he had a few models on the floor which might be what I needed.

To cut a long story short I found what I wanted and got fantastic service. What I appreciate the most is that no matter how stupid the question was that I asked' date=' I never felt spoken down to (WHICH HAPPENS IN ALL OTHER CYCLE SHOPS!!!)

or like an idiot. The guys only left the shop after 6 on a Friday and there was not 1 complaint from the staff.

WELL DONE FRITZ PIENAAR CYCLES STAFF!!!!![/quote']

I was told just because I am a motor cycle mechanic i do not know everything about a bicycle when i took my mongoose into a JHB shop for not changing properly . I usually service my bike my self and could not get the changing right .

They told me the cable was faulty and replaced it and gave the bike back . My first ride after the repair the changing was still up to !!@#@ .

Thanks . Want to take my cycle somewhere where I am not told that I am the Idiot .Smile
  9. My wife has a shelf full of different chammy creams . But has found that fissen cream for babies bums works the best and can be baught at any supermarket or shop . She says it helps . Have never tried sorry .

  10. I have the formula hubs with discs on my mongoose . I want to know if I can remove the cup and cone bearings and fit sealed deep groove bearings . If possible where can I find the axle to accomodate these bearings .

  11. I have the same brakes on my bike . When the bike is upside down the cyclinder sucks in air . All that you need to do is put the cyclinder at thee highest point and put a cable tie around the grip and lever and leave it like that over night . The next morning cut the cable tie and pump the brakes with the cyclinder still at the highest point . The air will all bleed out the cyclinder this way making the brakes much sharper . Tyring to bleed the small air bubbles down the pipe and out the caliper never works because as you release the leaver the air bubble travels up the pipe again . I tie a cable tie around both brake levers the night before a ravce to make sure the air is all out the system .

  12. The race was great . Who actualy cares if the race is longer or shorter . I am sure most of us are out there just to ride and enjoy a day away from work  . Some do it for gain . The avianto has some great riding . I carry zip ties in my pack at all times in case of any miss haps . One must be more prepared and organized for them selves . You Hubbers are a great bunch . Some good posts right here .

    Thanks for listining
  13. Thanks Johan , Went through to Northcliff Cycles . The guys were very helpfull and sorted a headset out for me with in seconds . Have just finished install everything . The head set is much better Quality than the standard and looks like the water will not get in as easy .

Thanks again for all the help much appreciated .
  14. I can not send photo,s as they will not load sorry . They are internal bearing with loose ball and cage . The top races and balls are all rusted and I am worried the race will still cause the neck to be ruff .

Where can i get aftermarket headsets from . The bottom of the steering tube where the race presses on to is 30mm and the top measures 28.6mm witch is the 1 1/8 you would be talking about .
  15. my wife schwinn 405 needs new headset and the origional does not seal propley . Can any one tell me if i can get a better after market part to fit in or must I go for the origional . The sizes are 44mm od , 30mm id and 21.2mm with the two bearings fitted together and measured.

    Thanks
  16. I have a 4 month old teocali comp with the slx rear derailer and deore ratchet . When the front ring is on the smallest and you change up gears on the rear it works fine . when you change down on the rear gears it jumps the gear and does not change down until you click it again .

When you reset the cable for a good down shift the up shift goes for a ball of      !@!@#. The shift works fine up and down as soon as you go to the next two front chain rings .

The shop replaced the inner and outer cable today saying it is fine but it still does the same thing . Any help Please .
