  1. It's R500 per person. That's to cover my expenses driving to PE from Cape Town. Ironman is a tough gig, you're out there all day and it's a long day. I usually charge about R2000 for an ordinary portfolio which is about 2 hours phototgraphy work. Non photographers - some anyway - often think if you have a camera you're a photographer. Most people can't edit and take rubbish photos. I've done the Ironman so I know it's worth good, quality memories, and as it happens, I have no decent photos of mine. But looks like I won't be covering it this year. Pity, should be a massive showdown between Tissink and Cunnama. Would have liked to have seen it. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NoaIBawRd-4/TElaxbdspuI/AAAAAAAAOPU/u4j5g88apqw/s640/iron+101-1.jpg

  3. Just a lot harder hey. No peletons to suck you along at 30% capacity. Ask any roadie who has done a proper Mtb stage event if its the same and see what he sais. NOT EVEN CLOSE MATE.

today's epic stage spent 7km on tar and they called it the toughest stage ever.

Note that Sauser took part in the Tour de Boland and Darren Lill easily beat him. Daryl Impey also timetrialed away from Burry at SA Champs, so it seems the road guys are looking tougher at this point.

  4. I saw plenty of guys chucking their gel sachets.

I felt terrible when my bar wrapper blew out of my hand as I was trying to stuff it under my shorts' seam.

On the rivet in Group C through Scarborough and near the front, I wasn't about to slam on anchors to go and fetch it.

    (embarrassed)

I think people should be encouraged to not litter, especially at the start. I care about nature and animals so let's make that clear. I think although there's probably a lot of negligent littering, sometimes it happens by accident, and sometimes for safety reasons. I know around Misty Cliffs you are motoring and it's not always easy to have only one hand on the breaks for two long. It's also the best place to take something in. I got shat on for spitting out a small piece off the top of a gel. Someone told me to stay out of Cape Town etc etc. That sort of aggro attitude is also not helpful. Get people in the right mindset at the start and then get on with it.

  5. Wow, guys really shooting from the hip here.

Taken from the context of the article I don't think anything originally said was out of line.

BUT I should NEVER have taken something from YOU magazine as fact, even if news24 thought they could.

of course all these celeb types are twitterati, http://twitter.com/liezelv

    so I now know:

    crashed into a pavement

@FraserMcH sillysilly, fell off when my bike hit a pavement and then had 2stAy oveR nigHt for observations.

that she has fractured her pelvis(lightly)

Lite fracture to Pelvis- I'm stuck in hospital for a week, after falling off my bicycle on the way home from Argus

    is on a zimmer frame

    My link

don't know why the paid journalists couldn't work that out first

some good research there CT, thanks for the background check. It is one of the most disappointing things to train for IM and then be sidelined, because in terms of motivation and training and time and energy invested, it's quite a loss. I've experienced that twice, so in that sense heart goes out to Liezel.

  7. This site seems to be full of school yard bullies who haven't moved on from the playground yet.

This thread is another example of people who like to throw their little barbs from the sidelines. What exactly did this lady do to warrant being targeted?

Liezl, sorry to hear about the fall. Hope you recover in time for your iron man. All the best.

I think there is a sense that she wants to be a serious athlete but is making some silly mistakes, and probably all of us have. It's one thing to broadcast to the world that you're doing the Ironman, it's another matter how you do it. But each of us is different and I think allowed to have their opinion and preferences.

  8. look - i dont think she is the brightest, but i have to respect her for getting out their and competing. who cares if she did a 3 4 or 5 hr argus etc. and if she has done an ironman - you cant just wake up and decide to do something like that. We should all be applauding the fact that public figures are raising some sort of awareness to cycling -even if it is one event every year

    well done
  9. Liezel has done the Ironman. I actually saw her running in the dark minutes before the cut off. I think the cut off is 17 hours, and she finished in 16-something. Could be wrong.

To each his own; I'm not someone who would want to do the Ironman like that {and I've done it once already}but it's still commendable that she finished it. I don't know how serious her crash was, but if she is on crutches 3 weeks before the Ironman and can't go to work I can't see Ironman being realistic, even if you want to do it in 16:59. But that's me.

  10. We're saying the same thing. I differ on the opinion of drivers though, they do deserve a large portion of blame on their behavior, which was beyond rude.

Spitting at people? Driving over a sidewalk? Driving directly at a marshall? That transcends rude in any context of an event.

Today will be interesting, with a 33kmh wind! Mother nature can be cruel!

Ja you're right. JHB drivers need a lecture!
