  1. Unfortunately Unless you decide to holiday in Durban soon Hopefully some Durbanites will be responding too!
  2. Just my 2 cents worth, This was mine and my team mates first and 2 days after can look back and say I really enjoyed it!! it was a true MTB challenge. i have been privileged enough to have done Sani2C Non Stop when they still had it on the calender and i preferred TB. I had a run in with a backup driver after check point 3. It was in the muddy section after checkpoint 3 where another rider and i had a laps in concentration and got stuck in the mud. There was a Toyota Bakkie with a FS registration who cam fly through the mud, without us being able to launch ourselves and our bikes out of the way, clipped my back wheel and i know its MTB'ing but was covered in mud cause of the speed he went through the mud. It could have been a lot worse but thankfully there was no damage to my bike or wheel, and the fool just carried on driving without stopping. I believe back up drivers have a place if they are experienced.. and patient!!
  3. I am currently conducting my research on cyclists at the Durban University of Technology. My research is based on assessing the performance of cyclists. The quadriceps have been identified as the most important muscles in cycling, as shown in previous research studies but, the effect of applying tape to these muscles is uncertain. I will be conducting a once off trial on each of the subjects who participate in my research. The consultation will consist of a 5 minute warm-up at a low power output followed by the 1.5km time trial course. This will be ridden twice but, in the second trial a taping protocol will be applied to the Quadriceps muscle. There will be a 20 minute recovery between the 2 time trials. The participants bike will be mounted on a Tacx trainer, for the time trials from which recordings of power, speed, cadence, and time will be recorded. Comparisons will then be made, between the first and second time trials. Peak power output has been shown to be highly correlated with cycling success, and we aim to test the effect of the tape on this and wether it would make a difference to a cyclists performance. Range of motion readings of the hip and knee will also be taken during the trials to assess the effect of the tape on range of motion. As cycling is repetitive in nature optimum joint range of motion is advantageous to a cyclists performance. The criteria for inclusion to the trial are: age 20-45, male or female, actively cycling for at least 1 year, an average of 6 hours a week. Participants may be road cyclists or mountain bikers. For more information or to participate in the research please contact Dani on 082 682 0378, or at the clinic on 031 373 2205.
