You are correct in saying that the Tankwa Trek is not actually in the Tankwa Karoo. The name Tankwa Trek came from a competition we ran when we were looking for a name to the race. We went for the name Tankwa as it means " Home of the SAN" . The area is littered with SAN paintings and one should visit the houdenbek trails in the Kouebokkevelt to go and witness it. But well spotted:-)

Event Name: Expedition Blackberg PUT ON ICE - WATCH THIS SPACE When: 31 May 2014 Where: Ladismith, Calitzdorp, Klien karoo, Western Cape Category: MTB DescriptionTwo World Heritage Sites (seweekspoort and swartberg pass), one dam, 18 hours...get your bikes ready for the ride of your life. From the creators of Bigshot Media comes an all new ultra mountain bike adventure that will take solo, team and relay riders through some of the most varied and tough, yet beautiful, parts of the Klein Karoo. With the emphasis being placed on endurance this event seeks to test mans, and womans, ability to cover a variety of terrains while at the same time having the physical and mental stamina to go the distance. Two The event includes 213km of desert, mountains, roads, trails and paths. Unique to this event, used only once a year by our entrants, participants will be ferried across the untouched Gamkapoort Dam. Check points will monitor progress over the distance while supporters will be able to meet up with their champions at two points along the route. So I've just recently returned from the new Renosterveld 3 day stage race. Before i left i was told by every MTB rider i know that this will be a "white soft sand " affair. Well i'm pleased to say that they were all very wrong. The route is a pleasant one, taking in the best the west coast has to offer. Ok. There was about 6km of sand....but it was hard and all downhill !! This will definitely be a great breakthrough for the West coast. In my line of business i should not be punting events, but being a west coast child myself i cannot contain myself. If you have heard of the Renosterveld 3 day stage race happening at the end of the month and have had reservations about the routes, then please may i be so bold as to say that the route is awesome. Pieter Dup has and still is working hard at getting it the best it can be for this year. I know that big things are planned for the route for the coming years as well. THE FLOWERS ARE SPECTACULAR ALONG THE ROUTE AT THE MOMENT AND WILL ONLY GET BETTER BY THE END OF THE MONTH. Come and rock your pedals among the daisies.
