  1. This seems like a decent deal on a Buzzrack 4 bike rack https://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/buzzrack-buzzracer-4-bike-rack I can also pick up a 2nd hand Thule Euroway G2 for about R6k. Any opinions on how these two stack up against each other?
  2. We might be taking the bikes along on holidays and then the space in the back is still important. However, since the tailgate pad is not too expensive, it could still be worth getting at some point for the short local trips with friends.
  3. Hi everyone, We have an older generation Thule hold on 3 bike rack that has worked alright for our old 26" mountain bikes. However, we have recently upgraded to 29" mountain bikes, and even just transporting 2 bikes with this rack seem troublesome. After putting the bikes on the rack, I normally tie the bikes down with either a rope or bungie cord to keep the wheels and steering from turning too much. However, the bikes still tend to move position quite a bit and the rubber straps on the Thule also move position a bit. This causes either damage to the back of our bakkie (brake levers rubbing against the back), or the bikes themselves (frames of handles rubbing against the other bike's seatpost etc). Am I doing somethin wrong, or is this basically just a limitation of the hanging type bike racks? If so, we would consider upgrading to either a tow bar bike rack or a hitch rack on top of the bakkie's tonneau cover. Any suggestions on what would be the best between these two options. I also have a few questions regarding the tow bar covers specifically. * Will a 3 or 4 bike rack have enough space between the bikes to fit 29" mountain bikes? * Is Holdfast a good alternative to Thule? * Recommendations for a good second hand bike rack market in Gauteng
  4. Hi everyone, I'm looking for a good storage solution for 4-5 bikes down 1 side of a garage wall, whilst taking up as little space as possible. The 2 products I've investigate so far ar as follows: * Wille Honde Bicycle Wall Mount Bracket This solution seems like it'll work nice for bicycles that will be placed high up close to the ceiling, as the bike will protrude furthest at the top. However, I'm scared that the handle bars of bikes positioned lower down might interfere with opening the car doors. * Steadyrack This seems like the best solution overall. However, the price point is definitely a big negative Is there any other alternatives similar to the steadyrack at a more reasonable price point? Or could you recommend any other solutions that I've not yet considered. For example, ceiling hooks etc?
  5. I see that the Zini has a Shimano RD-6100 12 speed, 11-50T. I believe Shimano to be one of the best brands when it comes to the drivetrain and shifters, but I don't know for example whether the specific RD-6100 model is one of their entry level offerings and whether the microSHIFT Advent, 9-speed, 11-42t on the Specialized Rockhopper will actually be better? The Zini is only 12 speed out of the bikes I listed. Some of the other 9-11 speed bikes only go up to 42T. Will the 50T make a big difference for the hills on the 947? Agreed with the Air fork. The only brand I've heard of is RockShox, but hopefully the Zini offering is still better than a coil spring fork. I've also just noted the ZINI Z29 Comp for R12 350. Seems to have the exact same specs as the Z29 Elite, except for a Shimano 11 Speed Rear Derailleur, RD-5120 (11-50T). So probably just slightly bigger gaps between the gears on that one.
  6. She is 1.7m, so most likely a medium size frame.
  7. Hi Everyone, I'm looking at getting a bike for my wife. The intended use is mostly some light, not too technical trails, but then also the occasional 94.7 road race. The current thinking is a medium sized 29" hardtail mountain bike in the R10k-R14k range. It's been a while since I've ridden myself, so I'm a bit out of date with the new tech. Are there any components that would be really important to aim for? For example, air vs coil spring suspension, or a specific amount of gears (especially considering the aim to work up towards road races like the 94.7). We've looked at the following bikes so far. Any recommendations on which one looks like a good deal would be greatly appreciated. Also happy to consider bikes not in this list: 2021 Silverback Stride Sport - R10 999 2021 Silverback Stride Eilte - R13 999 Specialized Rockhopper Comp 29 - R 14 000 2022 Zini Z29 Elite - R 13 290 2020 Signal Skye S910 - R11 000 We're unsure which bikes are the best value for money. For example, we've heard great things about the Specialized's frame, but the components on it seem to be cheaper or lesser known brands. In contrast, the Zini seems to be quite well spec'd for the price. Lastly, is it worth considering second hand bikes in this price range, or safer to go for a new bike?
