  1. Event Name: Cape Town Cycle TourWhen: 08/03/2026Where: Grand Parade, Western CapeCategory: RoadThe Cape Town Cycle Tour is the world’s largest timed cycling event, taking riders on an unforgettable journey around the Cape Peninsula. With fully closed roads, iconic coastal scenery, and electric support from spectators all along the route, cyclists can choose between the classic 109km route or the shorter 42km option. It’s a celebration of riding, where the focus is on having an incredible day out on the bike rather than chasing the fastest time, making it an experience every cyclist should enjoy at least once. 2. Event Name: Old Hermon Gravel RideWhen: 04/10/2025Where: Welbedacht Wine Estate/Schalk Burger & Sons, Western CapeCategory: GravelThe 2025 Old Hermon Gravel Ride will take place on Saturday, 4 October, with a choice of 22km, 44km routes and an 80km adventure on the cards. All three start and finish at the Welbedacht Wine Estate, just outside Wellington. The two shorter options follow district and farm roads nearby, gaining 195m on the 22km, but a more testing 390m on the 44km. Both routes are tests of fitness, rather than skills, ideal for an introduction to gravel if you are crossing over from the road. SEEDING EVENT STATUS The 80km option is a Premier Seeding Event for the 2026 Cape Town Cycle Tour and will offer a sterner test. It has been laid out to challenge the speedsters, and the adventurers; with 990m of ascent, also on glorious backroads and farm tracks and with a Tour-de-France-esque road climb, but with a little bit of washboard and some sandy stretches thrown in to wake up the tech skills, especially at gravel-bike speeds. Entries for the Old Hermon Gravel Ride are now open, and range from R256 to R550, with all entrants standing a chance of winning prizes from Garmin, Oakley and Thule. Expect quiet roads, world class organisation, refreshment stations you might not want to leave, and a great day out. Go to Event Page.

  5. Event Name: Cape Town Cycle TourWhen: 10/03/2024Where: Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town, Western CapeCategory: RoadThe 46th Cape Town Cycle Tour will be held on Sunday, 10 March 2024. The 42km route is back, for riders wanting to test the waters in cycling's biggest festival day, alongside the classic round-the-peninsula 109km. The Cycle Tour began life as a way to show a spotlight on cycling safety and mobility, but quickly became a race, and to this day the elites regard it as the most important win of the South African season. The men race over the full 109km route that has been used, virtually unchanged, since 1978, while the women and U17 men race the final 78km of it, starting in Fish Hoek at dawn and finishing without the interference of the other plenty-of-thousand riding the full route.  But it isn't all about the racing - far from it! The second Sunday in March has become everyone's favourite two-wheeled party, with closed roads making for a supremely safe day out on the bike. It also raises huge amounts for charity, with its main beneficiaries, the Pedal Power Association and the Rotary Club of Claremont, using surplus proceeds for safe-cycling initiatives and to uplift many of the communities through which the Cycle Tour passes. The scenery on the route is world-famous - tourists travel from across the world to glimpse what the riders see from your saddle - and the crowds lining the route making every finisher feel like a winner. 6. Event Name: Old Mutual Wealth Double CenturyWhen: 25/11/2023Where: Cooper Street, SwellendamSwellendam, Western CapeCategory: RoadThe Old Mutual Wealth Double Century is a 202km team time trial, starting and finishing in historic Swellendam in the Western Cape, each November. It attracts nearly 3 000 riders from around South Africa, and beyond, for a long weekend of riding, and maybe a little kuiering.  Teams can be a minimum of six to a maximum of 12 riders; male, female or mixed. A full 12-rider finish qualifies for the Charles Milner Medal, which honours one of the event’s founders and the encouragement he always brought to his teams to finish as a group, no matter the obstacles thrown up on the day; 202km of riding, ‘differences of opinion’, major mountain passes, varying fitness and ability levels and four seasons in one day make the Old Mutual Wealth Double Century a true test of endurance, cementing its place on every cyclist’s bucket list.
